I got this with a few others last night, and holy crap, is it awesome.
I'm not usually one for the "bad is good" mentality, but the acting is terrible, the effects are done with popsicle sticks and toothpaste, and the overall concept is very silly. It was done around the hayday of Evil Dead, and you can tell. Just some kids with VHS recorders making a movie, and for what it is, I liked it.
Anyone else seen it?

AKA The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue.
I thought it was horrible. And not in the good sense.

Um, that's not its alternate title - as a matter of fact I don't think it even has one. The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue is the alternate title for Let Sleeping Corpses Lie.

Dead Next Door was good for a low budget flick and I'm usually not one to dig shoe-string budget movies. The zombies looked good and the story was enough to keep me interested.
Then of course there was help from Mr. Raimi (at least that's what I've heard) for the budget.

Well, it was picked up by Anchor Bay. The trailers than ran before the movie were Day, Evil Dead, and Evil Dead 2.
The character names were all references to other horror film directors and writers... Romero, Raimi, Savini, Carpenter, Vincent...

In case you didn't notice, one of the main male characters lines were all re-dubbed by a different actor. some guy named Bruce Campbell.

I watched it via Netflix online. I'm all about audio, so when the zombie groaning started in the dark just before the opening scene, I was psyched. I think it's a great intro: just a couple zombies moaning and shambling. Quite a chilling concept to me. It was hilarious in the most surprising ways. I loved it!
Since I'm new to the forums, I want to be careful not to leak any spoilers, but it was pure fun.

one of the best indie zombie flicks in my opinion. Its too bad that J.R. started off so well but just continues to make shit movies. oh well. I asked him if he was going to make a 2nd a couple years ago but he wouldnt answer, like we were going to still his ideas or something.

i guess i'm lucky that way, there's a video store around the corner from me that specializes in strange, weird, exploitation/ sexploitation films and seems to have every weirdass thing that is still available on tape of dvd.
fun little store

I enjoyed it, it's not one of my favorites but it's pretty good. The audio commentary was decent.

I wondered about that. I thought his voice sounded a LOT like Bruce Campbell, but I also realised that the director was a huge Evil Dead fan, so I thought maybe he casted that actor because he sounded and, in a remote sort of way, looked like him. Guess it's simpler than that.
I'm all about audio
The female zombie sounds irritated me and made me laugh at the same time. They were quick and shouty and whiney as ****. It sounded like what you'd expect dogs to hear when they hear their master's wife bitching and moaning about dishes or laundry.

I thought it as a highly enjoyable movie with some good effects. I don't know, if it contains good looking zombies, I like it :)

Does anyone know WHY, that one main character is re-dubbed by Bruce Campbell? I always wondered how that guy felt to see the movie and hear his voice replaced. Was it done that way on purpose from the very beginning, or did they screen it and say "that guy sounds awful! Can we redub him?" and just happend to grab Bruce before he became an icon?

I'm not really sure. It's Anchor Bay, who own the distribution to all the Evil Dead films as well as Romero's stuff, and the main characters were all named after various directors (the main character's name was Raimi). In the bonus stuff, the director admitted how big of a fan he was of Evil Dead. I assume once Anchor Bay saw the potentially the film had with that audience, since it was released right around the hayday of the Evil Dead films, they decided to switch the main character's voice for someone more recognizable and with more persona.
When I heard the guy talk, I remember thinking "he reminds me a lot of Bruce Campbell." Low and behold...

Actually that decision was made long before Anchor Bay put the film on DVD. It wasn't necessarily something that was wrong with the character's voice it's just Bruce was a cult figure and they wanted to add more to sell the film - so they had Bruce come in and re-dub the voice. It was cheaper than actually having him act in it and I believe at the time, he wasn't available or they couldn't afford him. That and the film took almost 5 years to complete. So I'm sure there would have been scheduling conflicts.
Another interesting tidbit is Sam Raimi gave funds to the film and was referred to as "Mr. X" on the set - hiding his identity.

also...
I was watching tv and a advert for resident evil 4. There's a clip where it shows the zombie on the cover of DND walking down a hallway.
