I found Evil dead 2 vhs at "half price books" bookstore for $1.00 and bought it. I wasn't sure if it would be ok to watch without seeing the first one. I rented the dvd of the first one tonight and my dvd wont work for some reason so...

The question is... Would I be completely lost if i saw the second one and not the first one or will i be able to pickup on the plot? -_-

"Personally, I wouldn't recommend viewing #2 before seeeing #1. It won't be 'confusing' so to speak, but you lose a big, important, part of the story."

Well, this is actually something the filmmakers looked into while making part 2. They were originally going to continue it right where part 1 leaves off, like the exact moment at the end (saying it would give it away but those who have seen it know what I'm talking about) but they were afraid viewers would get confused. So they had this 15 minute or so, introduction bringing Ash back to the cabin with his new girlfriend and having everything start all over again.

So, no you don't need to have seen the original to get part 2 but it is recommended you see it at some point.

The funny thing is, brining Ash back to the cabin the 2nd film confused people who had seen the original because no one could fathom why he'd ever want to go back. Oh well, guess it's a good thing they did in a situation like this.

It true that the first movie was "remaked" in the first minutes of the sequel, but it's better if you watch the first one because it's the beginning and just frecking awesome

I saw Evil Dead II before seeing the original, and I wasn't disappointed that I had watched them out of sequence. The films are so different that I don't think it would really matter in which order you went. You won't be spoiling anything for yourself. So go watch ED2, have a laugh. Then watch ED with the lights off and creep yourself out.:2cents:

The most confusing part, for people who watch II first, then I, is the dissapearance of 3 of the cast. First film had 5 people going to the cabin, 2nd movie drops all reference to them, and only Ash and his girlfriend are the ones making the trip. And the FX budget is way higher in the 2nd movie.

I also saw Evil Dead II first, it didn't bother me in the least. In fact it remains one of my favorite movies ever.
