im sure you guys have heard of it.. lets rant.
I think it could be a good remake. like how assault on precinct 13 wasnt a total piece of :poo: . len wiseman of underworld is doing it and I enjoyed those flicks. So hopefully it will be good. the original is just one of the most fun movies you can watch with buddies so hopefully they can still capture that and make it violent and gritty.. although I think gritty can be taken out if it will be made as flashy as the underworlds:-(
like the first time snake walks out wearing those semi camo pants is great!

Well, I think we can all agree that this remake was inevitable. Guess I would probably give it a shot as long as it's handled right.

I don't know about that. Watching AJ Langer run around in tight hotpants definitely made it worthwhile for me.:)

I don't know if ALL remakes suck, look at John Carpenter's The Thing! Even John Carpenter does remakes, LOL!
But yeah, I guess if it sounds like it has been treated well, I'd be interested in checking it out.

Good point, The Thing and The Fly being the only examples (IMHO) of Re-Makes that outdid the originals. BUT the difference is 1) The Thing wasn't done in a Hollywood cash in frenzy of Re-makes and 2) The Thing was really the 2nd and far more accurate interpretation of the book "Who Goes There".
I guess one of my main objections is simply Kurt Russel is Snake! To me this is like hearing John McClane will be played by someone else or John Rambo it's insane. And yet these two guys are getting revived not re-made. I'd be far more happy about hear "John Carpenter's Snake Plissken" in production.
And whats the big woop with L.A? EFLA is a Magic 7 of a film, A film that doesn't deserve an 8 or a 9 but is bizarrely re-watchable.

In the remake, I'd like to see more daylight scenes inside the former NYC, since he's got 22 hours. The original seems like everything takes place mostly at night.
On a side note, I saw the deluxe 2 disc edition of EFNY at Walmart for $5 in the bargain bin last month if you can believe that. I bought it, along with Rambo 3 for $5, which I was planning on seeing over the years (fan of the first two) and enjoyed it. I even asked the lady at the counter "Can you check to make sure this is $5?" Sure enough.

Why remake it?
It is perfect the way it is.
We don't need to see anymore of it than we did. That is why L.A. wasn't recived as good, they explained too much about the back story and didn't just riff on a handful ideas and set ups like EFNY did.

Is Gerard Butler still lined up to play Snake? Y'see, as much as I did (and still do) enjoy the original, Kurt Russel is weaksauce. Butler has proven how badass he can be (if you don't believe me, watch Attila). I can count on one hand the films with Russel that I've enjoyed so I'd be more than willing to see a remake with a less cheese-tastic lead actor playing Snake.

I thought the remake of The Fog was horrible and the remake of Precinct 13 was eh, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed & hope that Wiseman does a good job on Escape.

Thanks chickenchop1, I was in Wal-Mart yesterday for some errands & I remembered your post so I went over to the $5 bin and lo, and behold, there was one 2-disc dvd left! I, too, had to verify the price at the scanner and I was overjoyed!!! I'll be watching it tonite.

You think? Escape from LA was Awful, apart from the scenes with Fonda and Combs.
Why should a remake be any different? At least the sourse material is sound. ****ing remake bleeters....:x (And no that wasn't aimed at you Wayne)

Cool. They probably had overstock they needed to get rid of.

If they're going through with a remake, I hope there's a few more action scenes, even though it wasn't made as a full-on action movie.

I don't like the idea of someone else playing Plissken, likewise with Ash. That's Russels role, but I guess if another actor can play James Kirk, then anything goes nowadays.
The remake has been motted to be more a prequel. anyone else heard this?

Scrap the remake, give the budget to John Carpenter and let's have a 3rd Escape from..... Perhaps 'Escape From Ignorant Movie Execs Who Have No Genuine Affection For The Industry They Work In'

Well Wiseman has dropped out the directors chair. and gerard butler has also left the lead role due to "creative differences" so there bringing in some new write to do the re-write and maybe direct.
what looked like it has a glimmer of hope with hte director/actor.. now looks like.. uh.. might be shite

A remake? I don't like that. The original Escape From New York, IMO, was a classic film. Kurt Russel is Snake. Lee Van Cleef is Hauk. The original had Snake landing on the Twin Towers. THE TWIN TOWERS!!! And, I love the soundtrack.
BTW, I always thought that Escape From New York would have made an awesome title for a zombie film. Only, in the zombie version, it's about people trying to get out of New York during a massive zombie outbreak. Hey, it sounds off base, but EFNY did have cannibals.
Ah well, I will give the remake a chance, but I have extremely low expectations for the success of this film.
Carpenter will serve as an executive producer and is quoted as saying: "Snake is one of my fondest creations. Kurt Russell did an incredible job, and it would be fun to see someone else try." And, Gerard Butler has bowed out of his role claiming "creative differences."
