In the Evil Dead thread I mentioned this. I rember back when I was looking for it how hards it was to find so I figured I'd host it for your downloading and view pleasure. Enjoy:
These are the two formats I could get my mits on.

Within The Woods (MPG Version) (http://www.hobbykeep.com/stuff/videos/Within%20the%20Woods.mpg)

Within The Woods (WMV Version) (http://www.hobbykeep.com/stuff/videos/Within%20the%20Woods.wmv)

Instead of explaining it for those unfamiliar with this Film I copied this below from wikipedia cause it can explain a little better than I.

Within the Woods (1979) is a short horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi. Raimi, longtime friend Bruce Campbell, and other associates shot this movie on Super 8 mm film in an effort to raise money to produce a feature-length version of it, which would later be released to massive critical acclaim as The Evil Dead.

Awesome! I've wanted to see this for years. Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have always said they would never release it, not even as a DVD extra, so it is very hard to find.

I'm downloading it now. Thanks dude! :drinking:

I'm glad I could help, the quality is low but that is to be expected. Maybe one day we will get this on a DVD but doubtful.

Yes, the quality was poor, but although it bugged me at first, I think it actually added to the experience; it made me feel like I was watching something secret and forbidden. I found the film itself to be amazingly well crafted for a zero-budget effort, and it really pisses all over the recent no-budget zombie flicks I've seen (no budding Raimis out there then). The atmosphere was incredible, even better than The Evil Dead in places (although perhaps the bad video quality had some effect there), and possibly more straight-up scary than anything in the three movies.

Really, really enjoyed it. Thanks again for posting. :) :drinking:

If Raimi hasn't ever released it (as I understand it he can't because he never got the rights to use the music he used, and as such is prohibited from making money on the film) how is it floating around the internet? Where did the copies come from?

I'm guessing that someone who participated and/or appeared in the movie (probably one of the unknowns) had a first- or second-generation copy of the movie lying around the attic. Someone probably made a copy to show their friends the movie they appeared in, one of the friends made a copy and passed it on to someone else, who saw an opportunity and made more copies and sold them at conventions, etc. Hence the dark, fuzzy, jittery tenth generation pirate copy we now see online.

Makes you wonder what the cinematography of the master copy looks like.

It's great to see, and how The Evil Dead came to be. Back in the early 90's I got a hold of a bootleg video of all of Sam Raimi's short films. They are mostly all comedies aside from Within The Woods. The best one was call Waders of the Lost Park.
Even with these no budget shorts you could already see Raimi's excellent use of editing and in camera effects.
