How is there not already a thread on this?
Saw this last night. Was definitely my favorite one so far. Some sick fight scenes, and good characters.
Anyone else seen it?

Ive tried to avoid the harry potter films. i read like the first 45 pages of the first book but thats all. not my thing.
i do find it cool that the author is planning on killing him when the series ends.. nice touch.
I read the first four books, then saw the first four movies, but I doubt I will catch this until I get around to the book first. Which in all likelihood is not very probable in the near future. The earlier movies were all good fun though

Saw the first half of the first movie and just couldn't get interested in it, for some reason. Haven't seen or read anything on the subject since.

My son & I saw this last night & I thought it was the best one so far. It was darker, less humor, had new characters and Harry's conflicts within himself & around him is developing into a better storyline which I hope continues in series.
I never read the books, and the first 3 movies were sickly sweet; the Goblet of Fire showed promise of darker days but it still had that sachirine after taste.

I saw it at the Drive-In with 1408. 1408 was better.
****SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK & MOVIE****
Pros:
1. Gary Oldman was amazing as Sirius Black. He was easily the best actor in the movie. Is it me or was he the only one to show emotion in this film?
2. Luna. She was just how I pictured her. Hot, smart, and ditzy. Although I do wonder why I saw blatant Harry/Luna chemistry; It was most welcome. I thought they'd be building up H/G.
3. I thought Bella and Tonks were spot on. Bella was completely insane and Tonks flirting with Harry was cool.
4. Maggie Smith was great as always.
5. Lucius Malfoy. Acting was great. I also liked how he and the other Death Eaters easily caught Harry and Co. I smiled at the line "Did you really think you kids could beat us?"
6. The Death Eaters weren't useless bumbling fools that fanon had etched into my mind.
7. After the movie was over; while reflecting about when Harry said something like "Maybe if I stop caring about people they will live" and Sirius died soon after, I laughed.
Cons:
1. How close is Privet Drive to farmlands?
2. We didn't see Harry's stag patronus at the beginning but we saw the DA's fully formed.
3. Sirius' death scene. (Besides killing the best actor in the series) After being hit with an AK he somehow managed to turn his head to look at Harry. I think they could have easily done it the way the book had, as well as Harry screaming "She killed Sirius! She killed Sirius! I'LL KILL HER!" Also, I thought in the book Bella screamed for at least 3 seconds when Harry crucios her.
4.The black wraith/DE's and the white pure Order members made me roll my eyes.
5. The whole Dumbledore/Voldemort conversation is cut.
6.The Voldemort possesses Harry scene. I was looking forward to the Voldemort/Harry saying "If death is nothing, then kill the boy."
7. The line where Harry say's he pities Voldemort.
8. I was looking forward to Harry yelling at his friends in #12 and destroying Dumbledore's office. It seems Harry only raises his voice to demand "Look at me!"

I have no idea where the spoiler tags are, I can't find them so be warned.
The first death is Professor Charity Burbage, Professor of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. The book actually opens with Voldemort torturing her, hitting her with Avada Kedavra, the killing curse, and feeding her to his snake as a punishment for standing up for the rights of Muggles.
In Chapter Four, as Harry leaves Privit Drive for the final time, the group sent to protect him is attacked by Voldemort and the Death Eaters. We lose Hedwig, the white snowy owl that has been Harry's friend and mail carrier through the previous six books.
In this battle Mad-Eye Moody, the Auror is killed. George Weasley is badly wounded, but survives.
Scrimgeour, the Minister of Magic is killed to put Voldemort's man in power.
Gregorovitch, the wandmaker, and Grindelwald, the dark wizard, are killed by Voldemort in his search for the Elder Wand, one of the three Deathly Hallows. Ollivander, the wandmaker is tortured, but saved by Dobby.
Bathilda Bagshot, an old friend of Dumbledore's family who still lived in Godric's Hollow, was murdered in order to lure Harry into a trap if he visited her for information.
Dobby, Harry's loyal protector dies rescuing him from Malfoy's house as Voldemort is about to arrive.
In Chapter 27 the goblin from Gringotts who brings news to Voldemort that the cup has been stolen is killed as are many Death Eaters. The Malfoys manage to escape from the room and survive the Dark Lord's murderous rage.
Snape is killed by Voldemort or more specifically by Nagini, but not because he was found to be a traitor...
Quite a few Hogwarts students, many who were part of Dumbledore's Army, plus members of the Order of the Phoenix died in the final battle. Crabbe was killed by the Fiendfyre he created to kill Harry - it almost killed Draco Malfoy. Tonks, Lupin and Fred Weasley are the main characters lost in the Battle of Hogwarts, but more than 50 were killed.
The biggest loss should have been Harry...the odds-on favorite to not outlive the series. He does get murdered by Voldemort, but the killing curse winds up only destroying the piece of Voldemort's soul that lived in Harry. Pretending to be dead, Harry is carried back to Hogwarts where Neville Longbottom risks his life to destroy Nagini, the last of the Horcruxes. The last victim in the book is Voldemort, himself. Destroyed by his own curse...
What were the Horcruxes? Voldemort split his soul into seven pieces in an attempt to conquer death. As long as any of the pieces of his soul survived, he could be returned to life. Unknown to Voldemort, he also left part of his soul with Harry when he attempted to kill him. That meant there were eight pieces of Voldemort's soul. One in his body, one in Harry and the other six stored in objects that had value or special meaning to Voldemort.
Tom Riddle's Diary - destroyed with a Basilisk's fang by Harry
The Gaunt Ring - destroyed with the Sword of Gryffindor by Dumbledore
The RAB Locket - destroyed with the Sword of Gryffindor by Ron
Hufflepuff's Cup - destroyed with a Basilisk's fang by Hermione
Rowena Ravenclaw's Lost Diadem - destroyed by Crabbe's Fiendfyre during the Battle at Hogwarts
Nagini, The Snake - destroyed by Neville Longbottom
Harry - survives, but the piece of Voldemort's soul is destroyed... by Voldemort
Voldemort - destroyed by Voldemort
Snape - the Half Blood Prince - was he good or bad? Both and neither? It turns out that Snape was a loyal Death Eater until Voldemort killed Lily Potter, Harry's mother. Severus Snape fell in love with Lilly as a young boy, before they came to Hogwarts. He pleaded with Voldemort to spare her life. After she was killed, he worked to overthrow the Dark Lord. He worked with Dumbledore to protect Harry even after Dumbledore was dead. As Snape died, he asked Harry to look at him. One last vision of Lily Potter's eyes...
What are the Deathly Hallows? The Tales of Beedle the Bard included a story of three brothers who cheated death and received three items - the Deathly Hallows. Ignotus Peverell, an ancestor of Harry's was one of the brothers. The Invisibility Cloak which was passed down through his family to James and then to Harry, was one of the Deathly Hallows. The Elder Wand, the Wand of Destiny, the Death Stick, which Voldemort stole from Dumbledore's tomb was another. The Resurrection Stone, which was passed through Voldemort's family mounted in the ring that was used as a Horcrux was the third. Voldemort and Harry were related since they both descended from the Peverell brothers!
Epilogue - 19 Years Later
Yes, Hermione and Ron get married and have a family. So do Harry and Ginny. One of Harry's boys, Albus Severus, is named for Dumbledore and Severus Snape!
Draco Malfoy also marries and his son, Scorpius, goes to Hogwarts with the Potters and Weasleys.
These are just bits of information. If you want to fill in the blanks, read the book. It's brilliant!!
In the sixth one Snape kills Dumbledore if I remember correctly. I'm done.

Saw OOTP with the wife this weekend, and overall it was my least favorite (ninja ghost fight scenes aside, hiiiiiiiyah!!!!!). I fell asleep for an undetermined amount of time shortly after they celebrated Christmas though, so I may have missed some enlightening moments. We will never know.

I haven't watched any of the potter films since the first one, and I read the second book, but other than that, I haven't had much interest in the series, I think for the most part it's over hyped and while it's alright series, there are much better fantasy novels out there for children.
However, all crabbing aside, I did enjoy this movie, although I must admit that there was tons and tons of dialogue and very little action, which was a tad disappointing, but I can understand the need to set up everything in this book/film for the next 2 books/films.
over all though, this was a good movie, although I'm not sure how the younger ones managed to sit through it as it was pretty long.
