Only a November 23rd UK release is listed but I desparately wanna see this one!! I just LOVE "druggie" movies that really sink you into the feeling of being messed up and not able to get yourself out when you can no longer tell the difference between reality and hallucinations. Anyone here who hasn't seen 2005's "Cookers" I strongly recommend that you run out and rent it. If this movie is anything like that then we're definitely in for a treat!!

The screenplay for Shrooms was written by Pearse Elliott. The movie stars Lindsey Haun as Tara, Jack Huston as Jake, Max Kasch as Troy, Alice Greczyn as Holly, Robert Hoffman as Bluto, Maya Hazen as Lisa, Don Wycherley as Bernie, Sean McGinley as Ernie, and Toby Sedgwick as The Black Brother.

Here's a synopsis for Shrooms from the official website for the movie: "When five American students arrive in Ireland to go on a camping trip with their old buddy Jake, they are in high spirits. Jake has promised them the 'trip of a lifetime' because he claims Ireland has the best magic mushrooms in the world, with the highest potency! Now that they are tripping, things don't seem so funny. Bluto, one of the gang, is missing. Tara thinks he's dead because she feels she has seen his death before, but nobody believes her - they think she is just wasted. They're all wasted. Wow...no cheesy cliche characters there! The nerd, the survivor, the fighter, the hippy, the jock and the shallow hot chick. None of whom would actually hang out with each in other in REAL LIFE. Shit, I'll probably still see it though. Cookers is one of my favorite flicks and this does share some resemblance to it.

Shit, I'll probably still see it though. Cookers is one of my favorite flicks and this does share some resemblance to it.

The thing that bothered me is that there's no reason for these people to hang out in the movie either. Pretty much everyone doesn't like everyone else. A lot of the movie is shot really nice and looks good, but it's mixed up with some scenes that are supposed to look like poor video and others that are shot behind a mask. It sorta reminds me of Silent Hill where some scenes are just shot to be strange and weird.

While it does have it shortcomings, you'll probably want to check it out. It is NOT cheesy fun, it is more like modern Hollywood adaptations of asian horror. Looks nice, character development lacking, light on gore, lots of scenes shot for effect and tension.

Evidently Magnolia will be releasing this in U.S. theaters on February 1st. More than likely a limited release, but at least us yanks have a date now!!

Finally got around to watching this one today. I've had it sitting by my TV for so long I'm surprised Netlix hasn't pressed charges! Anyhow, it's worth a viewing but not something I'm ever gonna own or watch again. The death scenes showed pretty much nothing and you could see the ending coming from the first murder. The only redeeming thing, I guess, was the scenery and some of the camera work. 4/10
