The Blind Dead

I’m going to come clean and admit that I REALLY don’t understand how 28 Days Later became as popular as it has. I thought it was as scary as an Andrex puppy. Danny “They’re not zombies” Boyle’s non-zombie zombie movie really didn’t grab me. As with most of Doyle’s work it’s rooted with a typical British miserablism that really gets under my skin. So why the hell would I do it to myself again by going to see its bastard sequel? - Good question.
The answer lays three simple words: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the man responsible for the criminally under-seen Intacto. With Intacto, his debut feature, he showed he had a raw talent. Dealing with lucked up hooligans betting their lives for kicks, and indeed, a mass amount of money. If you are yet to see it I highly recommend you hunt it down and give it a whirl, you will not be disappointed.
It’s been 6 long years since Intacto, but he is back and he’s made the unusual choice of selecting a British film for his follow up feature. Not only that… but a SEQUEL! It usually spells death for any aspiring filmmaker, as we all know how sequels tend to turn out. But I’m happy to say that in his talented hands he’s taken a rather shitty film and produced something fantastic.
The opening scene alone is on track for being the greatest horror achievement of the year. It’s that arresting! It won’t just hit you; it will **** you where you breathe!
