Paul Naschy must be a very happy man, his filmography has been given a whole new life on DVD and he’s still popping up in new titles to show off his acting chops. Panic Beats however, is the first Naschy film I’ve seen and it’s a solid but mediocre effort from the man both behind and in front of the camera.

The action kicks off with a bloody, naked woman flailing around through the woods, chased by a knight in shining armour who happens to be armed with a rather nasty looking mace! Ready to smash it into her face for being unfaithful – harsh punishment, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Forward to present day Paris (Well 1983, in fact) and we meet Paul Marnac (Naschy) and his filthy rich, but seriously ill wife Geneviève (Julia Saly). He’s been advised by the Doctor to get her out of the city and take her to a holiday home in the countryside for a get away. The clean air there will do her the world of good, apparently.

On their merry way there though, the car runs out of gas. Paul heads off leaving Geneviève behind to rest while he treks to get more gas. Big mistake, as these here parts aren’t that kind and she is soon attacked by two poor people who want to look through her suitcases (?).
