It took forever but Roman has finally seen the light of day! Man, this is one of those films I was willing to wait years for and for awhile I thought I’d have to, thankfully Lucky and Angela finished it. For those that aren’t in the geekoid know, Roman was created as a companion piece to Lucky McKee’s May, a highly underrated psychological horror film focusing on the loneliness and alienation of a young woman named May.

Roman (Lucky McKee) is similar but focuses on a quiet, introverted guy named…well…Roman (natch!). See, Roman really isn’t a people person and everyday after getting off of his welding job, he heads home to settle into a chair and stare out his front window, pining over a young woman that lives across the way from him. It’s definitely a bit strange but as you quickly realize, Roman is strange…fact is…he occasionally hears voices. Not only does that qualify Roman as strange but probably a bit nutty as well. Anyhow, he’s taken a shine to the gal across the way though he’s far too shy to introduce himself so he silently obsesses from his apartment like some creepy hermit hiding in his shell.

One day while sipping a beer on the roof, the girl (Kristin Bell) shows up, takes a seat, asks for a beer and strikes up a conversation with Roman. Their friendship begins to somewhat blossom and things are really looking up for Roman until a fateful encounter with the young woman in his apartment goes very bad and she winds up accidentally dead. It grew on me overnight and I found myself thinking about it today and liking it just a bit more than I originally had.
