The zombie genre is one that frequently victimizes the audience more than the poor saps in the film, which ultimately succumb to the noxious bites of the living dead. Comparatively speaking it would seem that more zombie films, than any other horror monster, are carved out by first time filmmakers who have little sense of what they are doing. It’s almost as if ones first stab at the horror genre turns out to be a zombie flick. Did I miss that chapter in the Idiot’s Guide to Making Your First Horror Film? Most of these low budget splatter fests seem to have the technical competence level of the home videos my college buddies made on the weekend for fun. Grab a camcorder, some cheap video editing software, and act out parodies of scenes from Night of the Living Dead while getting lit up to a case of Schlitz. However, this doesn’t mean these films can’t be fun. Hell, years later we still enjoy getting together and watching ourselves act like a bunch of drunken idiots. Folks, if I’ve learned nothing else reviewing horror films it’s that there’s an audience for damn near anything! Ghoul School almost qualifies as one of the kinds of movies I described above. However, it manages to stay a notch above Z-grade.
