Kaiju Eiga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiju) = Giant Monster Movie
Feel free to scream and point at the sky in this thread.
A place to discuss your favorite giant monster movies & tv shows, from Willis O'Brian's original stop-motion King Kong to the most recent addition The Host (Gwoemul).
One of my favorites is the original Gojira, not the americanized Godzilla King Of The Monsters.

Tut Tut, Ray Harryhausen never had anything to do with King Kong, he was too young. Willis O'Brian was behind the original Kong.

I like those old 1950s giant nuclear bug movies like Them, Deadly Manthis, and one about a Giant Octapus call It Came From Beneath the Sea. I allso am a big fan of the old Godzilla movies. Its kinda sad that they dont have those saturday afternoon horror matinee's anymore. Giant leeches, giant shrews, Big creatures from outerspace.

Watched the latest Godzilla offering last night.
Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399102/)
This movie was awesome!!! Relentless action & shite loads of monsters. There was a major Star Wars influence to this film as well.

It's kl, Just I actually been researching this kind of thing fairly recently for a story Idea I had. I love the original Kong, I don't much care for either re-make and Valley of the Gwangi was defiantly my favourite Harryhausen film.
I'd love to see my idea done in the style of those old Adventure B-Horror movies like "Beats from 20,000 Fathoms" etc. With the proper Stop Motion animation and no CGI, well maybe a little for background stuff but not the actual creatures.
Here's a link to a page I made on the Genesis of the story if you'd like to see.

I love Them!, an absolute classic. I remember when I first started Secondary School, our Art classroom had a poster for it on the wall and I would just stare at it for most of the lesson thinking "that looks so cool". When I finally got to see it, I wasn't disappointed :)
the most recent addition The Host (Gwoemul)
I spotted that in a store today, it looks bad ass. I was gonna buy it but unfortunately common sense prevailed and reminded me that i'm broke and I should really spend my cash on 'important' things like food, grumble, grumble. Oh well its gone straight to the top of my Lovefilm list so hopefully should see it by the end of the week.

Did anyone like the bastardized 1998 American version with Matthew Broderick? Or can Godzilla be made only by the Japanese?

I would have loved it if it hadn't been called Godzilla. It was pretty arrogant to try and re-invent the king of monsters. I also prefer a "suit actor" to CGI.
In Godzilla: Final Wars, one of the monsters is the American version of the big "G" and there is a funny comment when he is defeated quite easily.

Here's a scene involving a fully rendered CGI version of the Big-G in the Japanese flick, Always 2. Basically it's a story written by one of the characters in the flick for a school project in which Godzilla destroys his neighborhood. See why the fans are going all googly over this short,:?, yet sweet clip.:drinking: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEEXydQc9KE&NR=1)

Nice, that looked pretty good. I sure hope TOHO doesn't give up the rubber suit completely though. I don't mind intermittent CGI to enhance the action but Gojira should primarily be a dude in a rubber suit IMO.
