Sexy Marisa Mell in an Italian crime thriller set in the swinging scene of San Francisco circa 1969 anyone? Hell yeah! Count me in. What? Lucio Fulci at the helm of director? Even better. Slap me with a copy of this DVD and call me Sally!
Perversion Story or One on Top of the Other, is a sexy giallo of love, lust, betrayal, and murder. George (Jean Sorel) is a doctor who has less than copasetic extracurricular business practices. When his wife dies unexpectedly from a supposed asthma attack George is left with a million dollar life insurance policy. Holy Crap! George had no idea about the policy and is genuinely shocked to find out. The problem lies in the fact that George doesn’t have the best of reputations, and a million dollar life insurance payout tends to look a bit suspect to the police. Now George is caught in a web of deceit and betrayal with his dead wife on one side, his mistress (Elsa Martinelli) on another, and the appearance of a stripper who has an uncanny resemblance to his dead wife (Marisa Mell) on yet another. The fast closing noose is going to get George unless he can sort shit out, and quick!
What a great story this film had. All the elements of a classic thriller set up are in place. Despite the ingredients present for greatness, I was less than pleased with the outcome.
