If you don’t get one other thing from this film, you’ll get this: Albert Fish was one sick ****. Director John Borowski delivers a follow up docu-drama to his previous film on H.H. Holmes and craftfully tells us the riveting, and twisted tale of a man who was easily one of America’s most psychopathic.
For those who aren’t in the know Albert Fish was a sadomasochist, sexual deviant, child killer, and cannibal. Pretty much the worst of the worst. He existed in a depression-era New York City, having a house just outside the five boroughs, but finding his life’s work as a painter inside the city. As the story unfolds we learn of Albert Fish’s past, his upbringing, his family, his children, and the dark life he led in secret. Both fascinating and sickening the story unfolds in proper fashion making it hard to lose interest or turn away.
When it comes down to pure quality, this documentary is top notch. The material is superb and Borowski has done extensive research and is able to provide us with what might be the most extensive collection of photo’s and documents on this man. He interviews and provides materials from several other experts to include artist Joe Coleman and Nico Claux, who is lead singer of French death metal band Macabre, as well as a heralded “vampire”.
