Italian exploitation has surged back to life thanks to the divine creation we call ‘DVD’. Without DVD I would hate to think of what my viewing habits would consist of, mostly very poor quality VHS tapes released by VIPCO (If you are yet to hear of this bastard company, thank your lucky stars.)

*shudders*

As each month brings with it new exciting releases from yesteryear, new distribution companies popping up all over the globe eager to fuel the fire of exploitation fans world wide. It’s a good time to be an exploitation fan! Most of the titles from a period we didn’t get to see or if we were REALLY lucky, got to read the advertisement for them in the daily papers. (Unless of course you’re in your fifties, then I take my hat off to you kind fellow. While secretly wishing you dead, you lucky shite!)

As most of you will know 1972 was a special year for exploitation. It was the year the birthed The Last House on the Left, the illicit creation of some young punk called “Wes Craven” who would go on to direct a film about a violinist teaching kids in Harlem, what a waste of talent eh? Lucky for us the Italians were up for taking the genre to heart and shaping it into what we know it as today.
