Doom is aparantly in developement. I'm not too excited as the studio wants a PG-13 movie and they're after..THE ROCK! for the lead. jeese.

Again I think this would be a great Animie.

No, make it not true... I'm so tired of video game-based movies. :x

Couldn't care less about a Doom movie, but would it constitute a zombie flick? I think this thread should be in another part of the board!

Doom has tons of zombies. I hope this latest project gets canned and replaced with a dark R-rated more psychological approach a few years down the road. That is what Doom deserves and not another cookie cutter action flick.

All I can see from here is a weak story, no character development, run-and-gun matrix crap, wannabe horror with little gore (for those early teenagers), enough bad one-liners to put Chronicles of Riddick to shame, and a complete waste of time. And this is even before production has ended!

Thanks, producers. Another load of crap left in the halls of the Box Office.

This is what I heard from a friend of mine that is a doom fanatic, He said that the movie would be based off of Doom 3. He said that D3 is basically a remade version of the first game with a plot instead of running and gunning.

It doesn't have that much of a plot really. At least not one that you'll be thinking about much, inbetween blowing seven shades of shit out of the endless demons.

Love the game (crap at it, but I love it) although I can't see it making a good film. I've not played the more up-to-date versions, only the PSX game but it had no cut scenes and no real 'plot' as far as I could tell. I like the floating blue blob things, never could get to the damn things though!

Anyone ever read the comic? It's so cheesy but good. Their is not plot just a guy in love with guns on a quest to find more guns. That's why I think it would be cool as an Animie. Those are real graphic and can take cheesy liberties but a live action movie would suck.

What does Hollywood see in the Rock anyways? I mean he's not terrible but he's certainly not the only big guy in Hollywood. I heard that they were in talks with him for the Marvel comics adaptation of "Namor".

**uuuh...**

Well there goes another Marvel franchise down the shitter.
Has anyone here played Doom 3?

Yep. Finished it once and am playing through again for the second time. My interest is already waning though, due to the repetitiveness and scripted linearity of it all.

Is it as cool as I hear it is(Like I said, I have a friend that is a Doom nut and he loves it)?

If they make a Doom movie, they need to get the guys that wrote the novels to write the screenplay.

First of all, The Rock needs to stop being in movies and just stick to wrestling. If they make a Doom movie, it has to have lots of atmosphere, just like the games.

Well, there's no doubting that it's probably the most visually advanced PC game to date. The atmosphere is immersive, the creatures well-animated and unpleasantly nasty, and the action is tight. At the end of the day, however, what you have with Doom III is a very basic by-the-numbers first-person shooter with an extremely sophisticated makeover. Is it cool? Well, yes...it is. But once you finish it at least twice, I doubt many will play through it again (at least for several months). The real life's blood of this game will be the modding community, who will bring custom single-player and multiplayer maps to the table.

I'm not a big fan of the action movie genre. This film, to me, seems like its going to be a hybrid of action crap and horror. From my own experiances, this has never worked (same reason why I'm not expecting much from Res Exil 2).

If the main character is gonna go around killing demons because he's a "badass dude with lots of guns" instead of try to survive, I will quickly condemn this film and it's destined sequals. This kinda sh*t is made for the money and I hate movies made for only profit...

I have been hoping for this from I got Doom on the first playstation and when they waned Arnie to play the main role. There seems to be more talk about it recently with the release of Doom 3 on the P.C.I can't wait to see this one the games are untouchable.

It would because if you have played DOOM 3 yet youd know that most of the areas in the game are infested with the undead.

Meanwhile as far as the movies concerned I think its going to bomb. First of all the casting is going to suck. Secound you cant make a DOOM movie PG-13. Thats like making Resident Evil 4 have sonic the headhog the star of it and make the game rated E for everyone. :x :puke: :poo:

The game premise/backstory was pretty good. The storyline didn't really adapt well to the game itself though.

It's based on an alien race capturing some humans and going through their minds to discover what scares them. The idea being that they're intent on domination of multiple galaxies, or whatever, and beleive that mankind is it's biggest threat.

While going through the human minds, they discover stuff like fear of demons, nazis, etc.. obviously that's now a little dated by the time the aliens are ready to face the humans again but it makes for some interesting byplay.

Anyways, time passes and human space exploration discovers a moon/planet/caves on the moon/ whatever and find a teleporter/dimensional gate/whatever. The humans report the finding to their government, and decide to test it. Just as they decide to risk using it, the alien constructs pour in through it.

The doom game starts as the first wave of humans is no longer able to contact anyone, and your character is what's left of the 2nd wave. The 2nd wave reaches the scene and clears it out. Then as a few levels go by in the game, you go through the gates to the alien worlds linked to them... (ie- taking the battle to other alien planets).

It's all explained in the text at the end of each Doom chapter (5 - 8 levels (stages) made up each chapter). The ability for cutscenes at that time was fairly low, so they opted for doing it all through text. Parts that aren't explained in the game text are covered in the novels.

Anyways, while fighting them on their turf, you return to find that they've been destroying your homeland. (presumably they used other gates to invade our galaxy while we were busy elsewhere).

We're pissed and follow them through the gates again, but this time go through an additional set of gates to go to their actual homeworld, or something along those lines.

Anyways, the aliens use reanimated dead folks, and dead alien species that are selected for the amount of fear they cause in humans. Some of the zombies are actually cybernetic.. Including the dreaded Cyber-Demon, which isn't actually a demon, but just another alien species with a surgically attached rocketlauncher on it's arm, and big metal legs.

To my knowledge, the true enemy isn't faced until the final stage of Doom 2, and even then, you don't get to actually see them.

--
You have to understand the whole process here though. Castle Wolfenstein (version 1) had nazis and stuff in it, and Doom was supposed to be the next step in the same storyline. That's where the whole "using the humans worst fears against them" comes from.

Anyways, I think it's a rich environment for fleshing out, assuming you can come up with a good protagonist.

Here's an adventure concept movie moggles figure can't fail. It's non-stop action means they just have to stick in some plot and very little dialouge. The game is one person against the creatures, so dialouge should be mostly "Get SOME!", "Feel THAT!" , and "Whose Your Daddy!" variety.
I actually quite enjoy the entire Doom sereis of games, but am somewhat hesitent at the thought of a film. I could be awesome, but it's probably going to be alot worse then the game. JMHO

THeres no way they can have any dialog during the fighting unless its just the deamons screaming, It could be a good movie. Better then some of the game movies out there.

The Rock was on The Daily Show with John Stewart last night promoting his new film but all he talked about was Doom He seemed more excited about Doom then the other movie. Maybe if they had him where a helmet like in Halo the movie would look better.

Also The Run Down was pretty funny and Walking Tall was decent.

What ever happen to a movie being rated R? It seems as if they are toning down movies to so little kids can watch them.

It sounds like, if you've read his quotes, that this will be an "unapologetic R-rated" movie.

That sounds promising. Let's hope that's exactly what it is.
