Looks like the success of Rocky Balboa has sparked a new Rambo. This movie has been rumored for a really long time but didn't look like it was actually gonna happen until now. I, for one, am glad they're doing it so maybe they can end that series as well as they ended Rocky. Evidently in this one John Rambo comes out of retirement as a boat repairman in Bangkok to track down missionary aid workers who have disappeared in the jungles of impoverished Myanmar. I can't wait!!

Geez... How old is Stallone now? 60 plus? :scare:
I'm glad he's doing Rambo 4, too. I'm also glad the plot is still very old school ie: they haven't decided to make 'The thinking man's Rambo.'
He does look a little scary, mind, with all those sinewy 60 yr-old muscles...

I hope it stays that way. I'd really hate to see this get turned into a political statement about the "evils" of the US government.

Yas! It's like all the movies I watched as a kid are coming back. I too feel that a 4th Rambo will end the series nicely like Rocky Balboa, it's about time Rambo finally got over his anger and was completely at piece. And geese is it me or does he look far more stronger than he did in the last ones, looks like he could just rip some gorilla's heads off. Hopefully it will have the build up of First Blood then execute old school like Rambo II.

I saw First Blood. That was about the neglect that a whole generation of our military forces had to deal with when they returned from war. I don't want to see this series end with political grandstanding.

I can see it all ready. Rambo will get mortally wounded and instead of the manly cauterizing the wound scene, John will reach for his trusty tube of Bengay ointment.

I don't think this one will have too much "grandstanding". Part 2 did that especially well with the speech in the end. This one may make reference to the war in Iraq once or twice but I doubt it'll be partisan since that would make alot of people refuse to see it depending on which "side" they are on. I'm just hoping for alot of guns, explosions and that ever-awesome Rambo knife that we all wanted when we were kids!!:)

OMG I'm totally in the Stallone Zone!
This week I got the Rocky Anthology, Then My First Blood arrived yesterday, (Completing my Rambo Trilogy). And today what do I find, not so much find as it sneaked up silently behind me. The John Rambo (Rambo 4) teaser. Oh ha ha he's 60, shut up! Worried he'll brake a hip or something? The only bones he will be breaking are those unfortunate enough to be in his path. Now you've probably got a silly idea in your head of what Rambo 4 would be like, your wrong. Take that idea and throw it away, no! dose it in petrol and set it a lite. JOHN RAMBO is just fricken amazing looking, it's not so much a trailer as a warning, I may have nightmares after watching this. Coming soon and there is nothing we can do about it. Jason Voorhess is just a pansy compare to this crazy bastard!
And tomorrow my Rocky Balboa DvD will arrive pre-ordered from Amazon, it's like the stars have aliened.

Has anyone seen the Rambo IV trailer? The trailer is so bloody and violent, its either got to be a parody of itself or a really twisted flick! It makes Friday the 13th and some of the old Halloween films (though not Rob Zombie's up-and-coming remake) seem kind of hoaky and tame in comparison...
I mean, ripping out a guy's adam's apple with his fingers-- right in the trailer? Come on people!

Lars Frederickson was talking about the trailer on XM's Rancid Radio last week. He decided that there's a new genre called "Christian Gore" which is essentially movies that have horrific mutilation and splatter, such as Mel Gibson's The Passion, but nobody bitches about it because it's "necessary" for movies such as that. I don't really know why he would've included the new Rambo in that category other than maybe he saw it as dealing with a "holy war", but I thought it was a pretty funny observation anyway.

It looks like a promising action movie. I hope it's worth the wait.
Favorite Rambo is part one, First Blood, where Rambo's just checking out the town to go meet his old war pal, when the cops pin him as a drifter/troublemaker. Some great moments in that film, nice forest location. The others are good, mostly thanks to the loads of gunfire, action and explosions, then Rambo going stealth. One man army. Those explosive arrows were great in part 2.

IMO it doesnt really matter who hes rescuing, as long as there is lots of bullets, explosions, and memorable deaths,
besides in the late 70's early 80's 'nam was a hot topic, so rescuing PoWs made sense for that era , in todays politicly correct world rescuing christian missionaries who got in over thier head makes perfect sense IMO,
as long as rambo him self isnt a christian missionary this movie will rock :drinking:

in these turbulent times, the best he could come up with was christian missionaries? I mean Rambo's had quite the hiatus and returns from seclusion to save christians? It just doesn't sound right.

Just got back from seeing Rambo. If you're looking for blood, gore and brutal action filled with flying arrows, bullets and explosions, check it out. Heads explode, legs rip off, you get the idea. The R rating has come a long way since Rambo 3.
The story is a basic rescue mission for the most part with some wooden dialog here and there, no big deal, but it's a nice set up for what Rambo does best. The audience was clapping after the end battle finale. Enjoyed it, did not disappoint in the action department. (As good as Rambo First Blood? The sequels, but not part 1 IMO.)

Good question. Yeah, there's quite a bit of time before Rambo really gets going. I'd say at least 20 to 30 minutes of buildup before the first gunfire is shot. Some of the special effects are obviously computerized, but generally it looks gruesome, with lots of flying blood.

Just talked to a buddy of mine as he was leaving the theater. He said it was definitely the most intense Rambo of all and had more violence and gore than anything he's seen in the last 10 years! He did say he didn't care for the ending very much, but I didn't ask him to elaborate on that since I don't wanna spol it for myself.
I listened to an interview with Stallone on Fox last night at work. He was asked why he made this one about the Burmese-Karen conflict, and not about fighting the Taliban in the Middle East. Stallone said that he decided on this story because he felt that having a movie where Rambo goes over to Iraq and brings peace to the region in 90 minutes would be very insulting to the men and women who are over there serving and fighting everyday. I thought that was quite admirable of him seeing as how Rambo chopping off Bin Laden's head would've been a pretty much guaranteed money maker.

All these sequels after twenty years leave a bad taste in my mouth.
The new Rocky was not good, it was pathetic. It showed the hero we knew in a bad light, and the fight wasn't realistic even in comparrison to the other movies. The guy had brain damage, and a failing body. Come on...
Die Hard used to be about an average joe taking on 10-15 people that were better armed, and highly organized. The new one turned him into a super hero that can take out jets with vans.
I'm sure the new Indiana Jones will be the same fluff as well.
Let these great movies rest in peace, and quit screwing up my box sets!!

Yep, and I thought it was great that he was training someone to fight rather than having his old arse trying to take on another champ. Like I said the guy had brain damage and he was told that fighting again could kill him. I've only seen the new one once but as I remember they left that out of it.
I own all the Rockies, and have seen them all several times, and still couldn't get into the new one. Just MHO.
I will watch the new Rambo and the new Indy. I can't think of a single action movie I wouldn't be willing to sit through even if I thought it was going to be garbage. I'm a movie fan and will give just about any movie a couple hours of my time just case it is a diamon in the rough. People like me are the reason they will continue making sequels to movies that should be laid to rest because I will continue paying to see them. What a delima.

the movie should be called " a vet, a .50 cal and 100 asians."

I would pay to see that I guess.
Rambo4 is my new guilty secret. It's hammy as hell but Stallone has proven he has action director chops to spare. And clearly he wanted to make the single most gory war film ever. Succeeded too!

Wow where to begin, RAMBO! Like the other films and to an extent the Rocky sequels, this film is it's own thing, one of the things that makes these two series great is the fact each movie can almost be a different genre, Rambo III and First Blood are chalk and cheese. This can turn people off though. How I'd describe RAMBO is if Rambo III was as realistic as First Blood, actually showing you what would happen if one man was to go up against an army. Actually even more realistic. Another problem sinics had was the gap between this and the last film, mostly due to Stallones age. Now they could have made a Rambo IV in the 90's It probably would have been big and action packed, probably something like True Lies, and it probably would have been entertaining but the time has added to the film and the character if Stallone had tried to make another Rambo III it would have been stupid, instead he made a film about an ageing warrior, Rambo is darker inside, very much like he was in First Blood. Stallone's not just playing him as the super cool action hero but as an angry grissled war dog, an ugly killing machine which I think is better than the others. I've never hated the bad guys like this for years, not even the villians in the other Rambo's where this bad infact they where like Indiana Jones villians, we're bad just because we are. Where as the Burmese soldiers are shown doing what they do, it's sickening and you really are routing for them to be killed not just watch Rambo killing targets. The real footage from the begining is really horrifying and the ultra violence throughout really slaps you in the face and says, this is what war is!
The plot of the film on paper may seem old and predictable but it's the way the film is executed (No pun intended) that makes it so great, Stallone knows what emotional buttons to push which make this a heart pounding drama.
The ending (I'm not gonna give it away) I heard people didn't like it, I loved it I thought it was the perfect ending, not only for the film but for the whole series. Just like Rocky Balboa it makes the whole series better as a whole.
It's like someone fixed a shelf, the propped up the end now it's all good.
Awsome 10/10 and I'll be seeing it again.

WTF? You can dislike Rocky B all you want but those statements are rediculas, Rocky V showed Rocky in a bad lite, The fight was the most realistic off all the films. Rocky B turned out to be a necessary sequel as it rescued the franchise and turned out to be one of the best films of the franchise if not the best. Same with Rambo.
Die Hard 4 was not even a 20 year gap between the original film and the 4th one. And I do recall Mr McClane surfing trucks and making jet skis fly in the other films.

Using a ejection seat to get away from grenades. Shooting out of a sewer drain to get away from the damn water.
As for the old action getting new. I loved Die Hard 4. Liked Rambo Alot. and thought Rocky was ok.

Got this one from Netflix last week and finally got to watch it on Thursday night. This was a VERY kick ass movie with non stop action from beginning to end. Alot of the violence was particularly brutal, (involving children), but that really made it hit home on the atrocities that are occurring over there everyday. My hat is definitely off to Sly for pulling this one off after this many years!! 8/10
