Books similar to Resident Evil 4

Just wanted to know if there are any books similar to RE4 with the crazed villagers and elements from the game like monks or parasites. Please no zombie books though. I already know the Wicker Man and Lovecraft so those are out to. Thanks if you can help.

Well, I'm not sure this is quite what your looking for but Thomas Tryon's Harvest Home (http://www.amazon.com/Harvest-Home-Thomas-Tryon/dp/0394485289)is about a bizarre cult centered around a matrilineal rule and human sacrifice. Not "villagers" exactly but a quaint Amish-like cult that's up to no good. And it's a phenomenally well written book too.

And T.E.D. Klein's The Ceremonies (http://www.amazon.com/Ceremonies-T-E-D-Klein/dp/0553250558)also comes to mind. It's one of the 10 best novels I've ever read. I don't mean horror novels either, but the whole literary world in general. Basically, it's about a graduate student who retires to the countryside to work on his dissertation. He moves into a community which practices this strange Puritan-like religion that's based on summoning an ancient alien evil back to Earth. Very lovecraftian and creepy.

I'll try to think of more. I too am a fan of the sub, sub, subgenre of horror dealing with religious cults in a rural setting and possession/infection by malign entities.
