View Full Version : WAR OF THE DEAD: Z•E•R•O New series

Hello all,

We're the fellows who created the Zombie Outbreak Survival Kit over a year ago, and we've been waiting for some time to make this announcement.

This seemed like the most logical community to make first mention, so we truly hope this is not mistaken as some kind of spam. Couldn't find a section about broadband or cable shows, so we started here.

When you have time, please have a visit to:

http://www.warofthedead.com

We've just wrapped the second episode of a video series called "WAR OF THE DEAD Z•E•R•O", which follows the exploits of a team of elite zombie exterminators. The obnoxious Hollywoodspeak description we've been bouncing around is "'The Shield' meets the first 15 minutes of the original 'Dawn of the Dead'." The first episode is in post-production, and we hope to launch it on broadband in March.

Right now we just have copy and photos, but it's where we'll be posting most of our updates.

As this community is the most concentrated group of zombie fans, we thought we'd share this news with you first.

Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to contact us with any input, gripes, expectations, etc.

Cheers,

Joe Sena

Wow!

I always loved the SWAT scene in Dawn, and always wanted to see more
like that! MP5's and zombies:drinking:

I'm so happy that it looks like you've taken the realism route...real gear and weapons handling.

Can you tell me something about the technical specs? video or 16/35mm?

FearWerx
02-17-2007, 10:52 PM
Thanx for the good wishes.

It's shot on HD video, and I'm afraid that's all I know about the specs. My producer Melissa Rubin and director Michael DiSario can probably speak more to the specs. I'll make them aware of this post.

The weapons and gear are 100% real; courtesy of a fellow here in New York named "Spat"...check out www.spatcave.com for all his stuff. Any indie filmmaker looking for similar action should patronize this gentleman. We all have gear fetishes and discovering Spat was like being a kid in a candy store.

More to come. Thanx for the interest.

Right now, we'll be putting it on the web, but there's all kinds of conversation going on about other forms of distribution. However, that all remains just conversation until we have some stuff up and seen by people. Episode 0 will be up in a few weeks, and Episode 1 will be up in May.

As for:

"I was really excited when I heard it being compared to "THE SHIELD". Then I looked at the gallery pictures..............."

All I can say is wait until you get to see the interplay between the main characters. But thanx for the frank comment. Please keep'em coming...we value this community's opinions.

More to come. Thanx for the input.

A bit like 'The Dead next Door', which I am sure you are aware of. The zombie girl as your logo is excellent. I'll buy in. How does it work? One thing are these slow zombies or running?

FearWerx
02-21-2007, 05:36 PM
LOVE "The Dead next Door" and JR Bookwalter is a buddy we run into at conventions from time to time and we always pay him homage.

I don't know what you mean when you say "zombie girl in the logo"...

Zombies are fast and slow, depending on their condition. The more recent ones are faster and more feral. We have a whole "seven classes of zombie" backstory which pretty much covers every type of zombie, from Romero to Fulci (which are my faves and IMHO the creepiest) to the 28 Days/Dawn remake. Basically, the fresher the faster. :-)

Received word today that the sound designer is just finishing up the last touches on the "teaser episode" and we should be looking at a finished version next week. Release info will follow.

The girl with the greenish face that is by itself on your sites, hell maybe it's a guy, hey maybe it's not your logo, But 'she' looks great. You seem, anyway to be covering all the bases, most importantly you seem devoted. I like that..usually. So cant wait to see your show,

Hi all,

So it turns out that our director, Mike DiSario, snuck the opening credits for the show up on YouTube.

So, you can either view the credits on YouTube here (best way to see it full screen -- though the video is really compressed -- and turn up the volume to hear Chuck Graef's great theme):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEcDpDKI7Zk

Or you can see it embedded on the home page of our official site:

http://www.warofthedead.com

More to come...looks like it's tentatively gonna be on fangoria.tv a week from Friday, but I'll be back to confirm this.

Thanx again,

J

How do you get Fangoria T.V.? I have never seen it offered on Time Warner. Is it a subscription internet thing?

Kemper

If you all were smart you would show some of this free. You have to build anticipation. Some complete episodes are shown online.

FearWerx
03-20-2007, 04:06 PM
I should be clear that the episode will be on the FREE side of FangoriaTV. None of us wanted to put a subscription barrier in front of the show.

As for the other content on FangoriaTV being subscription-based, despite the fact that we operate the site, that's not our call.

The shows will also be available on YouTube and other online video sites (including warofthedead.com) after the initial run on FangoriaTV.

As for how to get FangoriaTV, it's an online video serive that can be found at www.fangoria.tv. It's free, with subscription upgrades for certain content.

*****

Another announcement that might seem relevant: VINCE LOCKE of the original comic "Deadworld" has agreed to provide illustrations for the WAR OF THE DEAD: Z•E•R•O card game we hope to release this summer. We were big fans of "Deadworld" back in the day and it's an honor to have him aboard.

More to come...

Have you tried Chiller TV?

Actually, no, but the folks on the programming side of FangoriaTV have lots of great contacts at NBC/Uni, and the Chiller folk were nice enough to put a link to Fangoria on their home page, completely unsolicited.

We're sidling up with the FTV folks because they'll be shopping programming around to various cable entities and we may just be one of the choices, depending on viewer response.

******
Latest news -- we're confirmed to be on FangoriaTV's FREE lineup for the week starting Friday, March 30. New programming usually switches out around 3-ish EST on Fridays.

Please tell your friends...it don't cost nuthin' :)

It's about 13 minutes long.

A reminder to any NY folks: we're having our premiere at I-Con scifi convention tonight (Saturday) at 8:30 at the indie film track.

I know, I know, it's a scifi convention, but it was the first group that asked us. Should be interesting.

Cheers and thanx again for all the great feedback!

Well, we premiered at I-Con Saturday night, part of a long day of indie programming.

We entered an almost empty room and almost left in deep depression, but then minutes before the show started, people filed in until we filled all the seats (only a little over a hundred). But then if the thing sucked, it would have only multiplied the embarrassment.

Thankfully, everyone laughed, jumped and went silent in all the right places, much applause at the end and we wound up staying half an hour over our allotted time for Q&A and (holy crap) autographs.

Pix from the preem will be up on www.warofthedead.com soon.

Meantime, we're a DEFINITE GO for Friday night's FangoriaTV (www.fangoria.tv) slate. ON THE FREE SIDE so no need to subscribe or anything.

More to come.

Thanx for your support,

J

Very good! I enjoyed it alot including the Sopranos shrink input. Why did it stop every 30 seconds and start again where as at the end it kept playing. I figured it was constantly reloading. If I am right I think I would have liked it more if it loaded all at once at the beginning and then played all the way thru. But again sure the acting was a wee bit amateur (Scottish nod) but only a wee bit, and for the price one can not expect Robert Duval. So I have to say it is really enjoyable and I look very foward to the future episodes. Well done!

Awesome Zombie
03-30-2007, 09:50 PM
I thought it was awesome! It was much better than what I expected, or what I am used to:lol:

The stopping starting was because it was a progressive download and you need to let it load a bit before playing to let it get a head start on things. It's annoying but if you can wait a minute you'd have a better viewing experience.

I thought the acting was fine and it looked great. I can't wait for the full on bloody pilot episode! Will this be available to buy on DVD? I think I'd like it more viewing it on TV but that's not to say I didn't like it. You definitly have a fan!:drinking:

Keep it up!

The prop work and custumes were superb, the only complaint i had was the scene where they were exiting the vehicles and crossing over to the house, something was just missing there, other than that it was good:)

FearWerx
04-02-2007, 09:58 PM
Thanx for the input gang...your support is appreciated and the criticisms are all noted. And Kemper, you didn't need to edit your post in case you thought we missed the fact that your "only" complaint were the settings. But thanx for the extra effort :)

For the record, ZERO garnered FangoriaTV's highest viewership since its launch. Thanx all for taking a chance with us...we'll be on YouTube and Revver by the end of the week.

With any luck, the next ep should be ready by June. Sorry it'll take so long between shows, but I have to wait for the bank account to replenish itself :)

The tease episode was pretty good I thought. Acting was decent, the story was fun for follow, and the effects and such worked. Although, if somebody asked me how I was "feeling" that many times I'd have to throw something at them.

I'm looking forward to more of these webisodes as they are released. Keep it up guys.

Well, after a week of exclusivity on FangoriaTV, we've expanded into all the other available online video sites.

Now everyone in or out of the US can see us at any of these places:

http://www.ifilm.com/video/2839332
http://one.revver.com/watch/225230
http://www.grouper.com

We're also supposed to be on YouTube (in 2 parts), but I hear it takes some time before it goes live, so if you want to see it there, just search for "War of the Dead Zero".

Our recommendation is to see it at our site, http://www.warofthedead.com, where we've embedded the Revver link. Of all the above links, Revver is the only host that provides a true full-screen option.

Thanx again for all the support!

I just watched the teaser and it was great, better than I expected. I would like to see a little more zombie action, but everything else was good. The main characters are likable and funny but I couldn't tell if one of the guys was Scottish or Russian.

Good job so far, I cant wait for the proper episodes.

I just watched it...it was great, and very funny. I really like the 'police-violence' theme. It was
like Law & Order and Hill Street in the old days. Maybe some grain to make the picture
less shiny would fit perfectly!

I thought the characters were great, I'm the kind of person who likes the
'can't handle my rage' 'getting drunk'-style very much, especially in cop
shows:)

But I must ask....is there anyway to watch it in better quality? You see, I work with CRT projectors,
and I would really like it as an high-quality divx
or something file!

Thanks!

Nicholas

Very cool actually. I was impressed by the authenticity of the uniforms and weapons. Often the wardrobe is an afterthought in low budget affairs, which can easily 'take you out' of the movie. The banter between the squad members seemed to flow quite nicely as well. I'll eagerly await the first full episode.

Yeah, the shrink wasn't great... but hell, I'm not about to pick. This was great stuff - unbelievably well-shot, with great performances from all, and realism that had me salivating. Ep 0's got me dying for more! Keep it coming.

Hello all,

Sorry to have been away for so long, but we've finally wrapped episode 2 of WAR OF THE DEAD: Z•E•R•O. In fact, I still haven't seen the final cut, which we're supposed to see on Tuesday.

The episode will have its world premiere at the Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Meadowlands in Secaucus, New Jersey. The entire cast and some of the production staff will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs at the FearWerx merchandise booth.

We'd love a big turnout, if you are in the Northeastern US area.

The digital version of the episode will premiere the following week; we just don't know yet whether it will be on Fangoria.TV or on warofthedead.com. We'll keep you posted about that soon...

For more information, please visit our friends at http://www.creationent.com/cal/fangony.htm. You can buy tickets through that link as well.

Thanx all for your attention and hope you can get a chance to see the episode. This one's got lots of gore, gunplay and some surprisingly good CGI (where needed, and not just for the sake of it).

Cheers,

Joe Sena

Glad you asked that...sadly, we have to wait until winter to shoot again, but we're securing financing to shoot 5 in a row, and we have a ton of dvd offers after the enthusiastic showing of episode 2 at this summer's fangoria convention.

So, if all works out, they'll roll out in succession during the spring, except for the last episode, which will appear on the DVD in late summer.

Or, at least that's the plan this week.:)
