Now…I know this is going to blow some of your minds right out yer asses but zombie films are pretty much all the same. Sure George Romero showed independent filmmakers that the zombie film can be just as socially relevant as any left-wing documentary or alternative indie arthouse film but seriously…MOST zombie flick filmmakers are doing nothing more than regurgitating the same old same old. I’ve called many cowards before and I stand by that. Now don’t get me wrong I love flesh-eating shamblers just as much as the next diehard horror dork but man…YAWN-O-RAMA!
I suppose the lack of originality in the sub-genre is one of the biggest reasons why I’m always finding myself enjoying the “not-so-typical” zombie flicks like The Stink of Flesh, Bone Sickness, Shadows of the Dead, I, Zombie, Zombie Honeymoon, Necropolis Awakened and more! While none of the above could certainly be called masterpieces, I’d have to say they at least TRIED to offer us something new.
