The Pang brothers The Eye looks all set for a remake for those that find subtitles too much of a hinderance.

Imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406759/)

From RottenTomatoes.com
Alessandro Nivola and Parker Posey have joined Jessica Alba in the English-language remake of the Hong Kong thriller "The Eye."

Just please, please be better than the Dark Water remake:lol:

I weep too:cry:

Not because it is a remake as such. I just have a problem with the remakes of foreign language movies that aren't all that old. I just see it as laziness rather than an attempt to update the story.

I hear you, mate.

The A-horrors seem to suffer bad from that syndrome and rarely does much good come of it.

Man the eye and eye2 were both great, even as a foriegn films... I don't think that they'll translate well just like Phone didn't

Do we seriously need anymore Asian remakes?!?!? I don't want the theaters to be crammed with anymore movies about some bimbo being chased around by "scary" water and a kid in a nightgown or tightie whities!!!! Leave the crappy movies in their own countries, and make more movies here about half naked women getting hacked up by madmen with chainsaws!! :saw:

 #1 reason why horror was nearly extinct in the 90's.

As for this remake, I'm looking forward to it. This is being helmed by two red-hot French directors just as Hills was helmed by Aja. This remake, above all the others, has far more of a chance on being worthwhile. The director's ILS (Them) is making just as much noise overseas as Aja's Haute Tension did. I'm going to give this one a chance.

I'm also going to be on the look out for the OFFICIAL 3rd entry into The Eye series. I never take the Pang Brothers' The Eye 10 seriously.

Although I don't agree with the idea of foreign movie remakes, it is not for reasons as infantile as yours. These so-called "crappy" movies have pissed over most of the American output in recent years.

Don't worry, i'm sure they'll be dumbed down so that you can understand them.

Well, it had to be said. The above comments relate to three very poor remakes of three very good films. I'll be the first to admit subtitles can be a pain in the ass from time to time, but the level of originality in Asian horror is quite impressive. Because if that I can understand the desire to remake them in an easier to digest form.

Let's face it though these are still relatively new movies. If however a poor remake turns people on to watching the original movie that can only be a good thing.

Unfortunately the uneducated majority still see Asian horror as long haired spooky girls, and not a lot more. But, with a little digging about you can see that there is far, far more out there. So, instead of just waiting for the next shitty remake people should search some of these fine movies out.

Or, alternatively just watch something that requires little or no thought.

I think the only sentiment above that bothers me is the idea that horror needs to go back to "half naked women getting hacked up by madmen with chainsaws." The very thought is chilling. Can you imagine having never seen the original Eye? Can you imagine going back to a time in horror when Ringu was never made or Dark Water never saw release in the West?

The original Dark Water brought tears to my eyes and the original The Eye gave me an elevator riding phobia for weeks. While I completely disagree with these U.S. remakes, I know they're working because I have quite a few non-horror fans watching these films and coming back to me asking about the originals.

If those films bring in just one truly dedicated horror lover, it's worth it.

Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of that every now and again, am just not sure we need more of them.

I still remember the first time I saw each of those. The thought of not having seen them doesn't bear thinking about.

That is definitely one good thing that does come from them.

To tell the truth, although I am not happy about it, I will check out The Eye remake. Worse case scenario I get to stare at Miss Alba for an hour and a half. Best case scenario, they turn out a decent flick.

Quality, not quantity. I completely agree. Personally I can't wait for Hatchet & Behind the Mask. :)

The original THE EYE is one of my favorite Asian horror films so I'm hesitant to show this film any kind of support BUT...BUT...it's being directed by two super hot up-and-comers that have a real film future. I'm willing to give the film a chance based solely of the strength of their first film ILS (Them).

Concerning the teaser trailer, Alba is still just as smoking hot as ever and it appears they've stuck pretty close to the original in terms of specific scare sequences and atmosphere. On a technical level it looks fantastic. I'll check it out no doubt about it.

Sorry for the double post but I just read that there were reshoots to this film made by Patrick Lussier which, in my opinion, don't bode well at all for the film. Lussier is the dingus responsible for Dracula 2000, Dracula 2: Ascension, Dracula 3: Legacy & White Noise 2.

*gags*

I'll still check this out but I'm back to being hesitant.

They madea sequel to White Noise? That's the movie with that Batman guy right (forget his name). That alone is scary...

I've seen the Eye 2, but I can't find the Eye, though I looked for it. Thought the sequel was excellent. THough I got a bit lost at times...
