The Blind Dead

A twenty two minute long standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Five star ratings and glowing reviews from every critic in the industry. Words like: “Masterpiece” and “Beautiful” thrown around like confetti at a drunken New Years Bash. And you know what? They’re right. All of them. Times 100 million kajillion.
Spain, 1944. The Spanish Civil War is over, but there are still rebels in them thar hills. Captain Vidal (Sergi Lopez) and his men have taken over an old mill in the countryside, flushing bands of determined Reds out of hiding and usually killing them...even if they’re not 100% sure that they ARE indeed Reds. Vidal doesn’t care; he enjoys killing, perhaps a little TOO much, and one has to wonder how such a cold and brutal bastard ever managed to marry a kind and lovely woman like Carmen (Maribel Verdu).
But he has, and both Carmen and Ofelia, her preteen daughter from a previous marriage, have been sent for. Carmen is heavily pregnant with Vidal’s child, and the pregnancy isn’t an easy one. The sickly Carmen is confined to bed once she arrives...[READ MORE HERE] (http://www.joehorror.com/0000625.html)

A little too "Peter Pan" for me. If I had kids maybe I would have enjoyed it more.

I don't get your "peter pan" approach.

Okay! Let me compare it to something else. It was like a really shatty Lord of the Rings. I just don't care for that fantasy mumbo jumbo!

Obviously, considering that you're comparing an artistic dark-fantasy film to a multi-billion dollar fantasy franchise. I understand that you're not into this type of film, but to say it's "shatty" because you don't like a genre is pathetic.

Boone, Boone, Boone. 99.9% of the other people in this forum say far worse than I at times when they disagree with others, and are far more close minded than I. LAY OFF ME DOG!!! We ain't duking it out tonight, tomorrow, or next week over this movie, okay! Shatty is just a nicer way of saying shitty (unless you're British of course), and it's my opinion. MY OPINION!!! I'm not telling anyone to not see the film or telling people that they'll hate it. I'm just saying I usually don't like those kind of films. I loved "Lord of the Rings" because I felt it was a fantasy series for mature adults. Yes, I heard the movie was rated R but I still think it seemed like a movie for children. Who were the main characters? Yes, they were CHILDREN Boone!!! Just not a movie for me, is that okay with you Boone? Boone, Boone, Boone. What am I to do with you buddy?:) Just don't know about you sometimes.

I don't think you even saw the movie to be honest. To say this is a film for children and LotR is for mature adults is weaksauce. How many orcs got stabbed in the face with bottles in LotR? How many smilies were given to the hobbits?
My problem is that I seriously think you're giving your "opinion" on az flick you haven't seen. It's not the first time it's happened in these forums.
So Zombie King, Zombie King, Zombie King, that's just my opinion.

Hey guys, before one of the mods comes in a shuts this thread down - let's give it a rest. Zombie King didn't like it, Boone obviously did - sure it's a great film but let's let everyone have their opinion. Even if it doesn't make much sense to us.

Thanks for getting my back bro. I know, Boone's opinion on the matter doesn't make much sense but I'm willing to leave this alone if Boone is. I really was just trying to say the whole time that it just wasn't a flick for me!

No offense, I have no one's back, I'm just trying to keep this from being a disagreement to a bashing thread. Both of ya got your shots in so let's just keep it about the flick from here on in.

Well coming from someone who watched the whole film, twice in theatres and once so far on DVD, I loved it but still hold The Devil's Backbone slightly higher, so naturally I can't friggin wait for 3993.

I enjoyed THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE very much but I don't know how I would compare it to PAN'S LABYRINTH. I enjoyed them both so much it would honestly be hard for me to try.

The fact that the movie's main protagonist is a child doesn't mean it's a kids movie. If that were the case (by your criteria) the Exorcist is also a kids movie

It reminded me of the old Grimm's fairy tales. Nice and dark with a little blood and dismemberment. It is a must see movie but not really a pleasent move. With my next paycheck I plan on picking up the special edition and seeing what kind of extras it has.

Yeah, it had a fairytale feel to it. Perhaps that made its brutality all the more effective?
I loved this movie. One of the finest new horrors out there at the moment.

I think the reason why it's in here is because it's really violent. (Example: a man's head gets crushed by a bottle.)
Whatever it is, it ain't no Miyazaki tale.

Wasn't Child's Play another horror movie?
I can see where you're coming from in describing it fantasy. However, you can't deny that it has elements of horror in it. The fact that it plays, on the whole, like a dark fairytale for me made said horror elements all the more potent.
