The Blind Dead
01-12-2007, 01:10 AM
Universal Pictures announced a March 23 release date for its supernatural thriller Dead Silence, starring Ryan Kwanten, Amber Valletta, Donnie Wahlberg and Bob Gunton. The film, directed by James Wan (Saw), tells the story of newlyweds Jamie (Kwanten) and Lisa Ashen, who have established a new life for themselves far from their hometown of Ravens Fair. When his wife is gruesomely murdered, Jamie reluctantly returns to Ravens Fair for the funeral, where he reunites with his ill father (Gunton) and his father's new young bride (Valletta). Jamie begins to explore the creepy town and encounters the legend of Mary Shaw, a famous murdered ventriloquist whose presence still casts a pall over Ravens Fair.

Universal made the announcement as part of its 2007 preview, which also included more information on the upcoming sequel film Evan Almighty, starring Steve Carell, which opens on June 22. Directed by Tom Shadyac, Evan is the follow-up to Bruce Almighty and brings back Carell in his role as the polished, preening newscaster Evan Baxter, now a congressman and the next one anointed by God to accomplish a holy mission: to build an ark. - SciFi.com

Ventriloquists are creepy enough, without being undead. I'll definitely see this.

Magic has had a lasting effect on me since I was a child. Hopkins is king.

At the begining of the trailer I was kind of worried that Micheal Jackson was going to be under the white sheet (scary movie 3 i think lol) but all seriousness dolls that come alive and rip out your tongue is always a good time count me in!!

Well reading the preview I was slightly worried, the story sounded weak, but after seeing the trailer it looks decent.

I've got an old high school girlfriend, (just meaning a friend who is a female), coming down to visit for St. Patty's day weekend and the wife doesn't have any interest in seeing this, so I guess I'll be taking her instead. In fact, my wife makes fun of this one every time the trailer shows on TV, but I'm still very much looking forward to it.

I'm all over this one. I am a sucker for any "evil doll reanimated puppet" horror story. Dolls, Trilogy of Terror, Magic, even the Puppetmaster series all disturb me far more than they should....

Chucky is excluded from that list though.

I'm kinda neutral about the movie. I mean yeah, killer puppets is a cool concept, but the trailer looked sort of corny for my liking. I might see it though, mostly because I'm a sucker for killer dolls.

Including Chucky.

Hopefully, the marionettes/puppets will have a big role in 'Dead Silence'; planning to see it.

I went yesterday to the premiere of this movie here in NYC. I like it a lot! DO NOT expect "Puppetmaster" the story is about Mary Shaw not "the puppets" but they are VERY spooky and the character of Mary is VERY spooky, even before she dies. The ending has a nice twist to it and the large majority of the audience didn't saw it coming. It has some good "Jump out of your seat" moments that will have your girl holding on to you really tight.:scare: I also got a nice poster and t-shirt out of it. I'm no movie critic, so don't go by what I say, but I had a good time.

Went to see it this afternoon and had a GREAT time! It's only an hour and a half long but it fits in an excellent ghost story in that short time period. The acting left something to be desired but it made up for it with outstanding visuals and some really decent jumps with an ending that I didn't see coming at all!! The trailer leads you to believe it's all about the puppets but it really isn't. The scenes with Mary Shaw were REALLY good with her disproportioned grin and outstretched long bony fingers!! I probably won't buy this one, (but then again...), but I'm definitely stoked that I went to see it in the theater.

"WOW!! Demonic Toys? Meet your Masters! Chucky, you got serious competition now! Because this movie took the haunted doll plot to totally new heights!"

"Spooky is putting it lightly. You know the weird little doll in Saw? The one with the clown face? Well, you are about to meet his whole twisted family, in my opinion."

"I have been fairly numb to horror movies, not easily scared by them. This one managed to give me real chills, it felt good. It was well acted, had a great script, and the CGI and special effects were excellent."

Wow, I didn't think this thread would still be here! I remember renting this months ago and thinking "Meh, it'll probably be another ghost story", but it was a damn good evil puppet film! It had a lot of scenes that gave me a good jolt, the gore was decent (although not much compared to the Saw films), and since I have no sense of bad acting I didn't see anything wrong! Overall a favorite in my book!

does this movie bare any resembelance to the puppet master movies? I loved those movies, at least up to the point where they started turning the puppets into quasi good guys

"Yes, and No. Only in the sense that it deals with 'death by doll', but it goes so much farther beyond that stage. I think you would like it."

Hideous film. Bad cgi, cliched plot & characters that it's impossible to care anything about :x. I bought the unrated version and this film's a joke :poo:.

Its great fun to sit back an heckle it MST3K style. I got drunk and guessed the entire plot the whole movie. I would say it is a D+ movie. It could make a good drinking game though.:drinking:

Pretty boring. I like Chucky and such but that wasn't interesting. Nearly snoozed on it. :P

if I remember correctly, when I saw it at the theater, at the end when we saw that room full of dummies in the theater, I saw the SAW puppet in a very quick shot.
