Since you guys were so supportive of the first book, figured I'd let you know--the first draft of the sequel is finished. Should be no problem turning it in before the October deadline.

Brian,
Great news! Can't wait to read it. Btw, I finally bought Fear of Gravity and hopefully I'll get some time to read it soon, as well as the Necrophobia chapbook. I'll try to get 'em both reviewed for the site, but w/the amount of work I've got, it'll be a while :) .

Awesome, I have to have something to read after the last Dark Tower book comes out, and The Rising is hands down the best zombie novel out there.

MONKEY: If your Borders doesn't carry it, they can order copies in. Or you can find copies here: www.briankeene.com
DAEMON: No teasers (yet) but I'll tell you this much: The book picks up where the first one ended. Several chapters take place in Jersey, and then the plot focuses on New York City, where humanity makes its last stand in a heavily fortified skyscraper. A skyscraper that is surrounded by Ob's army and the entire living dead population of New York.
You'll see some old characters. You'll meet some new characters. And hopefully, you'll have fun...
DR EVIL: Yes, it's true. The Rising was optioned by a Hollywood production company. Work on both the screenplay and the conceptual art have already begun.

The ending to part one was great, I really enjoyed the build up and how you finished it, the next book sounds like it's gonna be quite an awsome ride! :scare:

Dude ya ending left me very low during work....i couldn't believe it. But hey I'm pretty sure you were aiming for that...to not let the reader forget.
I am just getting to the end of The Rising (which so far has been f**king superb!) so the sooner the sequel is released the better!

Heya Guys,
Thanks to all of you for the props. Seriously--it means a LOT.
Can't say anything else about the movie at this point (I'd like to, but I'm sworn to silence). The screenplay is being written as we speak (I'm not the one writing it) and some conceptual art is finished (I have a peice hanging on my wall, actually).
I tell you what--if Dead Kev is willing, maybe sometime in November or December, ATZ can feature an exclusive excerpt--something to tease you a bit. ATZ members have always been very supportive of my stuff, so maybe this would be a cool payback?
The limited edition hardcover will be available in January, and should be up for pre-order in another month. I think the cover price will be $40--limited to 400 signed copies (and 26 leatherbound copies). The paperback will be out in June, for a much more affordable price of $6.99 (but who wants to wait till June...)

If you could just spare alittle tid bit.. Are they gona stick to your story mostly or change it more to there liking?
and will it still be gory as hell?
And one more thing.. could you please.. please please... keep the part where the zombies knock on the civilian transport in a playful manner. i Freakin loved that part. and here piggy piggy .
Well, i just finished The Rising! All i can say is wow! What an ending! The sequel can't arrive soon enough!

That ending left too many loose ends... It wasn't really that great, IMO.
Also, can we get rid of Frankie. I don't understand how the crack whore can just decide to go Rambo one day and then be a total bitch to everyone about everything. Seems a bit trite and annoying.
Hopefully the loose ends will be tied up in the sequel. Anyway, i liked it. :)
I think if i had gone through what Frankie had i would be slightly unhinged too, although i do see the point your making.

Just to clear stuff up, I think the book is great. I just didn't like the ending, seemed like a device that didn't work.
The ending was probably written like that with a sequel in mind. (Depending on sales!)
Anyway enough on the ending, give me part 2!

I know what it was meant to do, but I don't think it worked well. It seemed trite and a little overused.

As they say in my neck of the woods - 'Wicked Pissah'
I loved 'The Rising'. I was bummed about the ending. :x
But not anymore, now that I know there's a sequel. SHHHHWWWEEEETTT! :)

The sequel will officially be called CITY OF THE DEAD. Previously, it was announced that the hardcover Delirium version would carry the author's preferred title of MORE THAN INFINITY and the Leisure edition would carry the title, CITY OF THE DEAD.
But that's already confusing the hell out of people, and the book isn't even out yet. So--CITY OF THE DEAD. Coming in hardcover in January and paperback in June.
And hopefully, you guys will dig this ending better... ;)

Hi brian, I just signed on this board and its nice to see you here.
I read your book, the rising, a few months back and loved it! Could not put it down. Yours is the first zombie-genre book ive taken up, and in fact i was coming on this board to see if I could figure out something similar for light pleasure reading. BTW, your ending was fine despite what others say. Its called 'creative license' and we appreciate the book in the way you intended it. Your'e filling a huge gap in a segment of the market that fans like us have been lusting for for decades (literally, and sorry for the for-for). Keep up the good work!
DrD
There are a couple of threads listing zombie novels that should be able to help you out Dr Dead.
