View Full Version : Wish list for Dead Rising 2

It has not been announced yet but Capcom would be nuts to not capitalize on a 2nd Dead Rising. So what do you hope to see in the next game?
My preferences:

1. Make the game take place in a city ala RE 2: But where RE 2 had restrictive level design make this a much more accessible city with the same chaos in environments that exist in Raccoon city. While a city may make it difficult to have as accessible locations (such as going into any building you see) the developer could swap the amount of locations with weapons that you would find in a large city. Think about the possibilities- you could grab a jackhammer from a construction site and either keep it plugged in and use it pulverize a zombie, or you could unplug and jam that suckers point into a torso or skull. You could be your own Big Daddy.

2. Utilize vehicles more : they had cars in DR, but have busses and train cars while you at it.

3. More variety of clothes and haircuts: A bit small I know but who wouldn’t want to bash a few noggins with a cool looking hoody, swat team uniform, ,Mohawk, or Tuxedo?

4. More playable survivors : Franks cool no doubt about that, but why not have a variety of survivors with multiple goals? Frank could stick to photojournalist, but why not have a paramedic who tries to heal the sick, a priest who wants to give the last rites to the unliving before sending them off one final time, or a mother who is searching for her kid and has to navigate through the city collecting the clues. Maybe have each character start in a different location- Frank in the suburbs and maybe a solider in the middle of the city.

5. Make the psychos more complex: While some of the bosses or psychos are funny and others scary, the one that sticks out in my head the most is Cliff aka the machete man. This is mostly because his story is so sad and makes him the most tragic and inevitably the most memorable bad guy in the whole game. So in DR 2 why not have bosses who are simply trying to get food or medicine for survival, thereby making the player second guess taking them out for whatever unique weapon they have.

6. Make more interaction with NPCs: Other than bosses, soldiers, and escortees Franks level of interaction was limited to an occasional pairing up with the other cop to fight Carlos. In DR 2 perhaps have the player cooperate with NPC to get food, ect. On that same token why not have the player compete with them for weapons, ammo, and the previously mentioned food stuffs.

7. Make each hour longer than 5 minutes : While the 5 minutes did increase the tension, it did grow frustrating when you had to get multiple objectives done and you had to guide 4 survivors with the combined intellect and survival instincts of a fruit gnat a healthy distance. Which leads to the final part

8. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY MAKE THE SURVIVOR AI MORE INTELLEGENT!! : I don’t want Einstein’s, but I also don’t want jerk offs that decide to wade into a sea of zombies after I have gotten everyone clear, and then have to rescue them which in turn gets me killed. Also make them use the weapons I give them more effectively. Usually the AI likes to run around like a lone Rambo assaulting everything, including fellow survivors.

Well that is a long list. So I got some points down what are yours?

Have a good day and happy holidays
Quinn.

Um, I guess so... Yeah I don't think the 360 has a strong enough system to support such a big land. I didn't have this happen to me but I heard a lot of people's 360s were crashing.

Quinn

I think the 360 proably could. Oblivion showed how much interaction could be placed within a massive world, saints row showed that the 360 can do massive city scapes, and the soon to be released Lost Planet might show how a massive level can contain alot of action going on at one time. The next GTA will proably be a good litmus test for possible expansion of the DR world. Also this is a wish list, so go wild it doesnt have to be feasible :).
Besides who wants to play the next game in a mall anyways?

Those games didn't have 1000 people on the game at once.

Quinn

I dont know, my exposure to Saints Row seemed to suggest a pretty hefty amount of NPCs on screen at one time. Besides, if you wanted to you could always section the city off similar to the mall that way you would not have to have one giant GTA sized map but perhaps more controllable small maps that form a cohesive city. Also like I said its a fantasy wish so if you want dragons write that you wish DR 2 had dragons that do Franks taxes, becuase there is nothing cooler in this world than video game Quicken.

I never had it crash but people have especially with this game. And Elder Scrolls which I previously owned didn't have 1000 or so figures on the game at once. Not to mention the constant loading needed in this game. I think for now this and Elder scrolls have pushed the 360 to it's Current limits. Maybe by the time this game comes out it could support such a large format. But no one here seemed to realize that this game is rumored by sony to be a PS3 exclusive. And yes I wouldn't doubt it. Capcom has Counsel jumped many times before.

That Idea might work there. But Saints row didn't have THAT many! Maybe 100 is the most I have seen. Nice idea though it could work.

Just some items:
- Pistol silencer.
- Six-shot revolver.
- Crowbar.
- Double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun. (+ Sawn-off.)
- Dynamite.
- Billhook.
- Flashlight.
- Hunting rifle. (No scope.)
- More clothes of course.

Quinn
12-19-2006, 10:50 AM
I like all of those ideas especially the implications of the silencer and the flashlight. The silencer may yield the possibility to sneak around zombies thereby avoiding massive onslaughts to your character and any survivors they might have in tow. Utilizing the flashlight the developers could create some genuinely creepy levels. Imagine an all night/dark level where the only illumination comes from a flashlight; that would scare the cabbage out of the player the first time they ran it over a huge crowd of zombies in a warehouse or some such place.

I never had it crash but people have especially with this game. And Elder Scrolls which I previously owned didn't have 1000 or so figures on the game at once.

It has nothing to do with how many "figures" are on the screen at once but how many pixels are able to be displayed on the screen at a given time. The Xbox 360 has a pretty beefy graphics processor with multiple pipelines for shading etc. There have been games with massive maps that the Xbox 360 has no problems with. The upcoming game LOST PLANET (Capcom) is going to be HUGE. The problems with systems crashing isn't in relation to the game but more in relation to hardware conflicts and overheating.

But no one here seemed to realize that this game is rumored by sony to be a PS3 exclusive. And yes I wouldn't doubt it. Capcom has Counsel jumped many times before.

That's not true at all either and bit of logic would disprove that rumor. Dead Rising was a HUGE selling point for XBOX 360. People bought 360's so that they could play DEAD RISING. Capcom would be incredibly stupid to make their Xbox 360 hit game an exclusive for another system.

Further...the lastest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, they contact Capcom directly in regards to this exclusivity rumor which was quickly debunked by Capcom.

Why should it be a huge city? I would pick a string of small towns that's a few miles away from the mall. The smaller areas mean more detail and better gameplay. The stores you see in the mall can be found in the towns as local establishments you can break into. You could also go from town to town by wooded areas and small roads that aren't barricaded by the millitary, which could bring more missions out of towns by rednecks and campers. You could choose to stay in the towns and mow down zombies in a bus or street sweeper, or you can go off-road in ATVS to get away from the millitary. What do you think?

hmm, my list>

-ability to climb ladders
-ability to move while aiming guns
-ability to jumpup and pull yourself up ledges
-guns using magazines instead of having one big ammo pool
-molotov cocktails(this might already be in DeadRising im not sure)
-claymore mines
-Survivor safety locations where you could leave survivors w/o worrying about them getting killed
-crouching
-flare gun
-a choose your class function you could choose,
u> indicates unlockable class

Security Guard>Police Officer>u detective>u SWAT team member
Soldier>u SpecialForces Operator
Fireman
Janitor
Cameraman
FBI special Agent> HostageRescueTeam member> Black Ops Unit

Have the game take place in a City

QUIT RESTARING WHEN I DIE!!

ok now that I got that out..

Oblivion uses a sectional loading system that you dont even notice.. (used in morrowind but much smoother now). miz that with saints row and you could certainly do it.. by proccessing standards 360 and PS3 could handle it with ease..

I preffer the 360 but I gotta give em both credit..

Recruiting trained survivors who arent total rejects and run into the middle of a crowd with Rifle, something like in Freedom fighter once you do certain things you gain respect and can reccruit stronger more trained people and have alot of people too, oooooo and what everygame needs a Free mode where you can just screw around and destroy the enviroment (I love those games) without it saving over your game

I don’t know about the patch thing, seems kind of ineffective from a business stand point. If the xbox wasn’t already doing all these processing actions why not state that in interviews, ect? For them to release this super patch would almost seem too theatrical in an industry that seems already more dramatic than a teenage girl, but then again my familiarity with the technical side of games is somewhat lacking; so perhaps your friend is correct.

well this is what i'd like to see:

More Guns!: shotguns, snipers, all kinds of guns; why go to the trouble of walking up when you can blow zeds away from afar?

Allies: If you find survivors than you should be able to choose from two options: 1. take them to the safety helicopter 2. Utilize their fighting abilitys and make them join your team to fight against zeds!

and finally
Buildings: Like was said before but you can go inside them, whether it be a small house to barricade yourself in or a skyscraper to hopefully find survivors in.

well whaddya think? :loon: or

The ability to barricade is a given (as most have allready mentioned).
However, I don't want to just randomly chuck objects into a pile, I want to nail boards on windows, solder doors, properly stack objects, even set up traps like nail guns etc. Depending on the effort and time put into the safe house the better it would be and it would become a save point.

More guns, there just weren't that many!

Bigger text (obviously)

Better save system, and for the story, takes place at the same time as the first DR, and a different character. But really, a mall is the only place they could have a bunch of resources and open areas, and there is a mini rollercoaster in the mall. Wow... i think this is the first time i have ever posted on this site...
Ya i heard that DR2 was coming out like last month and i got really excited i just hope they have like online play where you and a group of friends go out and find resources ( LOTD) or have small missions like more zombies are coming and you have to blow something up. I also think that the mutiple town senario would be nice and in that in the starting menu you can choose where you start out and ever town is different. Im thinking like WoW on 360 except no magic just zombies. I also think like vehicles would be nice even though that they had vehicles in the first one im just sayin more Pimped out like in DOTD 2004 and they should have that ... .o man i dont know what you call it like on racing games where your car get damaged ... ya that thing. You could run into something and maybe flip or it could be like crackdown (360) where they have a damage bar and when its all up the car explodes.

How about a GTA engine where you cruise around in a city going from one location to another saving survivors and killing Zees? Completing mini quests, but also having an overall storyline.

Then you could go the WOW style and have different classes like medic, soldier, punk, mechanic, bartender... I don't know but you get where i'm going with this.

Better gameplay.

Which would consist of better save points/facilities. None of this having to repeat the game over and over and over to get further. I had to restart the game about 8 or 9 times in order to make decent progress in the game. I for one dont care about having your characters stats (the size of health bar you die with) being carried over to a new game after you die. You are seeing the same bits in the storyline time and again and it gets repetative real fast that. If it wasn't for the atmosphere created in the game I would have given up long ago through that sickening feeling you get from playing the same parts over and over.

Dead Rising was a damn good idea but it was also a poorly executed one at the same time.

It was a shame because the zombies in it Romero would have been proud of them. As they did sort of copy some of the ideas from the man himself, even though they deny it on the front cover of the box. The zombies stagger brilliant so they do, none of this running zombie pish. The sheer amount of them onscreen was WOO HOO!!!. In the underground tunnels plowing through crowd upon crowd of the undead was something that funnily enough never got repetative. Your like "Oh sorry dear boy, never saw you there!" and so you reverse back and fourth over the carcass a few dozen times to hear the crunching and squelching noises hehe. Then before you know you have like 300 of them surrounding your car before you can blink. Class so it is in some parts, but over all it is flawed. As I said it is a shame as it has the right idea, just poorly done.

I want the walki talki to be destroyed. That thing annoyed the hell out of me during the game. I agree with a lot of people and their ideas to make DR2 better. Everyone though has been mainly focused on more usable items and locations than story. The games end was open and there were still the list of children that were infected with the host, so I hope it does something with trying to stop that and in fact coming to an area of zombies instead of the world being overrun by zombies. I'd like a better story and more interactivity with the environment as well as online even if it is limited.

Also if I'm not mistaken the games on x-box 360 are only using a fraction of it's true potential.

"While Capcom has already announced that they are working on a sequel to the popular zombie action-fest, Dead Rising, they have yet to officially release any information on it. And of course, that means the rumors are flying and information is slowly leaking out. Folks over at The Gaming Life recently received an email from a source with a picture allegedly from the new game and a description of some of its new features:

“The environments for Dead Rising 2 look absolutely beautiful. They put a lot of effort and work into them. The zombies had not been added into the game yet, but the area looked even bigger then the original mall. The setting for it looks a lot like Las Vegas except somehow you are trapped only in a small section of the city with about 4 or 5 casinos, some restaurants, shopping areas and a lot of stores altogether. It looked very much like the strip in Las Vegas, but they didn’t show a whole lot to make an accurate portrayal. That an I know Resident Evil: Apocalypse is set there so I am unsure if they would go this route. All I can say for sure is that the setting was much bigger then the small town mall.”

In addition to the new setting, the developers are intending to add a co-op online mode, previously thought to be included in a Platinum edition fo the first game:

“Finally this game will have some aspect of multiplayer where users will be able to play a survivor and try to tough it out online with at least 4 players. With the first one Capcom knew that gamers wanted a multiplayer zombie game. However did not have the time to make it happen. This game they are listening to the gamer through the survey that was taken a while back.”

Rumours also indicate that a teaser trailer for the game may be shown at this year's E3, so maybe we'll get more details then."

ya, i'd have to say CO-OP and the guns, i think it should be hard to find a gun, but once you do u can keep it and find ammo around the mall....or wherever DR2 is gonna be....are we even sure there is a DR2 comming out?

That's a good post. If it is in Las Vegas as the rumor suggests, hopefully the entire city opens up including apartments, freeways for the vehicles, etc, not just the entertainment areas.

Or actually be able to drive cars through shops... Like the Blues Brothers!

Well anyhow my wishlist.

1. Be able to close shop shutters
2. Have a bigger variety of drivable vehicles! 18 Wheelers, Boats, 4*4s, Busses! etc.
3. Actually able to barricade buildings... Like boarding up windows, moving heavy furniture in front of doors, the ability to leave survivors inside the buildings and the barricades stay there once the area has been vacated by your character.
4. Lockable doors
5. You actually can die from bites!
6. More guns
7. No more Otis or Otis like figure who constantly pages, texts, emails, calls, faxes or radios to moan about some survivor locked in a cupboard somewhere...
8. The ability to use cell phones, the internet (well sort of) and shortwave radios to contact survivors holed up in that barricaded building you left earlier
9. Smarter AI (Survivors and psychopaths)
10. No more 3 day time limits and the fact of starving to death when you have all the time in the world
11. Better save system!
12. More aggressive survivors (As really not everybody will be too happy about being whisked away by some random person to a place that might not exist!)
13. Multiplayer! (Now its nice to have protection from the living dead thats offered by others and send out groups that hunt for supplies and other friendly people!)
14. Being able to sleep... Or needing to sleep.

Well thats all for now!

ide say what ide want in a dead rising 2 would be...

cuz its all bugs controlling corpses right? why not a reallllly big 1 that controls them all...even though it might end any possibilities of a RD3

im more of a smg kinda person...and they didn't have any of those in RD1

lol and when they say that ull get a megaman buster for 53503 kills i expect a mega man buster!!!!

i spent my entire day killing all those.. i got the achievement and all....but no buster....

and in RD1 frank was never cured the infection was just slowed immensely

so y not have in RD2 frank zombifying and u get to play maby a few lvls as a zombie frank :)

maby anouther scyco like the stre clerk he was awsomely funny

Dead Rising is now $29.99 brand new at most stores, sold over 1 million, so a sequel is a must. So far, it's looking like DR is a 360 exclusive, with no plans known for a PS3 version, unless it's the sequel for PS3 and 360.

The main thing I want to see in the sequel? NO LOADING TIMES once the game is underway, except for maybe cutscenes. When moving from one section to the next, or through doorways and gates, the loading screen really takes away the sense you're playing an open world game. If GTA, Driver, True Crime, Midnight Club 4 and other open city games can stream the map, Capcom should be able to do the same thing, so as you approach each new section, the map is already being streamed/loaded from the DVD.

And have a create a character option. And the option to dress up in a zombie disguise and walk among the zombies without them catching on unless you run.

Capcom’s Keiji Inafune has stated that the long-rumored sequel to Dead Rising is not in development as of yet, but conceded he felt the project was something he would like to pursue at some point in the future.

"Dead Rising 2...is something I would love to make [but] we're not making it right now”, said Inafune, in a recent interview with US publication Game Informer. News of a sequel originated from Capcom’s Mark Beaumont, who said that the firm were keen to "establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come".
First, Resident Evil 5 gets put back until Q2 09 and now this. Bummer! :x

I'm definitely foaming at the mouth for this one too!

Sorry to be the guy who has to do this...

Dead Rising 2 Only in Consideration.. Not Production

In a recent interview with Game Informer magazine, Dead Rising producer Keiji Inafune has set the record straight on the current status of a sequel to Dead Rising for Xbox 360, confirming that a follow-up isn't currently in production. This puts the rumors to rest about all production news about Dead Rising 2; such as our last post.

However, it is a title under consideration at Capcom Japan.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Inafune said "...we're not making it [Dead Rising 2] right now," but he did say it was something that he'd love to make...

Heres my list of 'must haves':

-Fly a helicopter (with mounted rocket lauchers)
-Find more then just PP stickers (e.g. hidden 'one use' objects?)
-Drive a tank through the city.
-IT MUST HAVE ONLINE!!!!!!!!!
-More gory death animations (e.g. decapitation by zombie)
-Play as a clown.

Weapons:
-Weelchair
-RC car
-Throwing Knifes
-Nuke (lol)
-Chain gun (infinite ammo of course)
-Flamethrower

Thank you for listening!

hell yeah, you have some cool ideas i never thought of.
i really think the game needs some co-op action. or like a vs. mode where you try to see who has the most supplies or something like that i think just death match would be kinda lame.
also i think there should be a point in the game where you get to drive a tank. that was a pretty big letdown for me that you didn't get to drive the tank at the end of overtime.
also some new enemy's would be cool, some different kinds of zombies there were only like 100 different zombies in the original that were just repeated, it would be cool if there were some punk zombies or business man, or hell even a black zombie(i don't know why, but I have always wanted to see a wheelchair zombie)! but beyond just different zombies, maybe like some wild animals or something, or even some environmental danger like buildings that can collapse while your in them, and you run slower in the mud/water making it easier for zombie to get you. or if they do anything with nuclear testing or something acid rain would be cool.
also story wise, show some stuff from franks past, like his first journalist assignment etc. show the path he walked that led him to his current predicament.
-----
and for unlockable items
they had Megaman stuff in the original it would be cool if you could unlock some stuff from resident evil like like Leon's S.T.A.R.S. gear, or his stuff from Re4
