View Full Version : Boxed Blind Dead Collection Anybody?

The Blind Dead

I've been hearing about it for quite awhile and there was news that Blue Underground was putting out all 4 in a DVD set...then I heard Anchor Bay was. I know you can also get the last 2 in the series through Brentwood.

Anybody else itching for a boxed set?

I am. I love the Blind Dead films. Last contact I had with Blue Underground, they said it was still a go, and scheduled for 2005 sometime.

Well, if you like the Blind Dead films can I please point you towards this -- http://www.indiegods.com/IGPages/projects.htm . Shameful advertising I know, but the chances are I could get to write a Blind Dead story in the future.

Yes, according to Blue Underground, all 4. From the information I received from an employee of Grentwood Home Video, Brentwood never had the real copyright to distro the last 2 Blind Dead flicks. I take it the company that granted them the rights didn't have the rights themselves.

Best info I have:

THE BLIND DEAD COLLECTION
(5-Disc / Includes Bonus - 15,000 Limited Edition)
Year: Varies by film
Director: Amando de Ossorio
Stars: Varies by film
Note: This is a collection of The Ghost Galleon, Night Of The Seagulls, Return Of The Evil Dead, and Tombs Of The Blind Dead which includes a bonus 5th disc.

Like you I am waiting for this collection as it'd take quite a bit of time and expense to bag the lot at the moment (at least here in the UK).

I've emailed Blue Underground and we'll see what they say.

I've heard back from them and they say........ there is no release date yet and to keep an eye on the site. I've asked to be cced in on any announcement they make but keep watching the skies ;)

Oh and they also said they were open to suggestions for releases so I said "Night of the Creeps" - worth a go I suppose ;)

amazon has free 2 day shipping as well, but you have to spend $25 or more. I buy a good bit from them. I like Deep Discount as well. I'll usually check between the both of them, but if the prices are close to the same I'll usually get it from amazon. Usually, the second day after you place your order with them you will get it.

Well, keep in mind that this box set is limited to only 15,000 units. Once it's gone...it's gone. You'll be forced to pay outrageous ebay prices or you'll end up having to purchase each installment of the series piece by piece. In the end...you'll still pay more.

My suggestion would be to purchase the set and suck it up when the buyers remorse kicks in because I've heard many of my friends whine and bitch after they missed out on a hot box set.

BU is notorious for doing this. They're making single disc versions of each of the Blind Dead films as well, but the limited box set is the only way to get the bonus disc, collectible 40 page booklet, and coffin case to hold them. The single discs are supposed to come out the same day as the box set, but no one has them up for pre-order yet. I'm assuming they'll be in the $15-$20 range.

Alright here goes. So far I've watched Tombs and Return. Both have these options.

Cut version - dubbed
uncut version - original Spainish versions with subtitles

It's not that big of a deal, just as long as it took them to get this thing out and for the money, I thought they should have done it.

Another thing, this thing isn't serial numbered like all of BU's other limited editions. They have stated that only 15,000 were made, but there's no number.

That probably wouldn't be a bad idea. BU's releasing them individually later on without the book and De Ossorio disc, so hardcore fans will want to get this.

On the numbering though, they numbered The Crazies, Two Evil Eyes, Dead & Buried, Final Countdown, and countless others. I just don't understand why they wouldn't this?

I really wanted to buy this, but I read there was a bit of women being raped and eaten, is this correct? I don't know why hearing that bothered me. Usually I don't give a shit about anything. Also, if I'm going to buy a box, more than 75% of it has to be decent. From what I've read, only 2 movies are good, so I'm at some crossroads. Can someone convince me otherwise?

Rape, yes. Cannibalism? No. More like...vampirism I suppose.

As for only wanting to get the box if 75% is good...well that's really up to you. By purchasing the box set you get the first two slam dunk classics plus an extras DVD that only comes with the box set. You also get a reprinted and slightly updated booklet entitled The Knights of Terror that details the film series' history. Once again, that's ONLY in the box set.

Now, not everybody might enjoy the 3rd and 4th entries but I love them. The 4th entry is actually a wonderful little film. These are incredibly atmospheric films. Don't let a little misogyny choke you up.

Nothing like a story where the characters are moments away from being slaughtered and they're more preoccupied with working out the love triangles and quadrilaterals!

the only that's disappointing me so far is the recycling of footage from first film to second. not that it would've been soooo scary, but you just know exactly what's coming when the window opens and when the graves open. the jumping on the horse was funny the second time though :)

They are definitely worth picking up. A true zombie enthusiast should not be without these landmark films.

How does everyone else rate the films? I have Tombs being my favorite, with Night of the Seagulls coming in at second. To me, Ghost Galleon is the weakest of the lot.

I liked Tombs and Seagulls more or less equally, but I really enjoy all of them. Usually if I need to take a sick day off work, I sit on the couch and watch all four of these

Man I want to grab this but then the wife says something like "blah, blah, we have to worry about Christmas, blah, blah..."

Well, by the time I get the chance the set will be sold out anyway. :-(

See that's when you just order them, and then when they come say:
"These are the ones I ordered 5 months ago. Man, they took forever to come in!" And she'll be none the wiser.

It'll work, because you see our brains are double the size of theirs. It's science. :-P

That's almost similar it's eerie. I normally say something like, "Nah these are some pre-orders that finally came in. Uh...damn. Shit."

I ordered this from Columbia House back in late Sept./early Oct. and they finally arrived this past Friday.I've been watching them over the weekend and they're not bad.The Tombs of the Blind Dead is definately the best one but Return of the Evil Dead is pretty close.

There's been a bit of a recall (http://zombie-a-gogo.blogspot.com/2005/12/blind-dead-box-set-blues.html)on some discs.

hmm...I started to watch Tombs in Spanish, but I quickly realised that the voices were still dubbed! So I switched to English. Not sure if I'll bother sending mine baack for replacements. I did see the alternate intro to Tombs, but I don't think I'll ever watch the Spanish versions... unless I'm missing something else by sticking with the English.

The Spanish versions are uncut.

you mean what i watched in english was the edited versions!?!! i was under the impression that all versions on the dvd were unedited and the same, excepting that alternate intro, and the language of course. holy crap, i know what i'm doing this weekend :)

well i'll be...

can't believe i didn't realize it, with the duration of each language version posted on the case even! wow, 14 mins difference!!! all that nudity and gore i was missing! and some scenes actually make more sense now, too! :)
guess i'll be shipping mine back for replacements after all...although i didn't notice a glitch on Tombs. where exactly is it?

this is the info from the recall notice (link a few posts above):

There’s a one-second audio dropout in the Spanish version of TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD, and a one-frame video/audio glitch in the Spanish version of RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD.

if i didn't notice a one-second audio dropout, i don't know if i'll see/hear the glitch in "Return"...it's one-frame, as in 1/30 of a second?

i'm actually quite surprised that a company would go to teh expense of fixing and replacing for something so minor. very admirable! i have cd's with worse glitches and nothing was done.

I'm hoping to pin point the exact time each glitch occurs so I can post it up everywhere and anywhere so buyers are able to check easier.
