SAW 4 On the Horizon10-19-06 8:20am, Absinthe (absinthe@horror-web.com)B-D has just recieved word that Tobin Bell is under contract to do 5 sequels in the Saw franchise. Taking that word to heart it appears as though Lionsgate is already prepping Saw 4 for next Halloween. No writers have been announced as of yet.
The question is will always these sequels hurt the franchise? Only time will tell.. til then I am looking forward to SAW III. -horrorwebnews.com
not much of a shocker. Im eager to see number 3 and am a big fan of the first 2. I just hope they dont run out of well thought out plots.. but we'll see how it leaves off at 3.
I read recently that Part 4 has already been given the greenlight. Not sure that i want to see 5 sequels. We shall see though

Yeah. I don't think anybody should be surprised by this. I think I saw a preview for part 3 when I saw part 2  ! Guess this news does kinda ruin the ending for the new one though.
Part 3 was given the go ahead the day after part 2 was released, when they saw the opening day's takings. I think it is a fairly safe assumption that part 3 will rake it in, hence the early announcement of Part 4.

Did you people know how Saw 2 came to be even?
Someone approached the original producers with a story already written. The producers liked it, made some minor/very minor changes/additions and there you go Saw 2.
That being said I loved the first one and was entertained with the second. But its just going to be the same thing over and over. Blah blah blah
I also heard that the sequal had a huge budget compared to the original... I thought it was the other way around. Any confirm or deny this?

The original Saw cost a little over a million to make and Saw II cost $4 million. I'm fairly certain the ante was upped for the third.
I think as long as they can come up with interesting stories they should go for it. Too many people whine about remakes and Hollywood's lack of originality but this series here is original and has, so far, kept things interesting. If they can squeeze out 2 more, why not?

Its like the Friday the 13th films, Saw will just keep going on and on forever and ever, and then by part 8, They will throw out all that we had taken as backstory from the previous 7 films and change it somehow!*
*Jason takes Manhattan: Young jason, for no apparent reason, is Normal Looking, Even though through EVERY SINGLE F13th film, he's a deformed kid. WTF?

The budget for Part 3 was $10 million I believe.

Bousman and Whannell Bow out of SAW 410-24-06 8:43am, Absinthe (absinthe@horror-web.com)During the junket in Los Angeles, CA Writer Leigh Whannell and Director Darren Bousman both confirmed that they will not be returning to do Saw 4 for Lionsgate. They were happy to wrap it up as a trilogy and end the franchise as a dedication piece to Gregg Hoffman, who passed away last December. James Wan, creator of the first film, has also confirmed the same news for himself -horrorwebnews.com
well if there not going to do it with the og writer than I dont think they should do it at all.

I've gotta be honest, I didn't enjoy this series, and I never understood why they made 1 sequel let alone 2. If Saw 4 has been canned then IMO it's the next best thing to me travelling back in time to stop the series before it starts.

It probably should end if this is the case, however, I am fairly positive that it won't. The movies make far too much profit for any studio to walk away from the series.

I agree. All sentiments for the last Darren Bousman but movies are a business and business comes first. If they believe they can make money on a fourth entry, they'll do it with or without the original creators.

Writer for SAW 4 Uncovered10-27-06 12:04pm, Absinthe (absinthe@horror-web.com)Joanna Daniel, the Writer and Director of the short horror film Red, is one of the lucky individuals working on a version of Saw 4 for Lionsgate. Her short film is a retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood," but in this story, Little Red is more than capable of taking care of herself. Saw 3 hits theaters this Friday. -horrorwebnews.com

no no no my friends! if you have seen the 3rd movie and then think about a fourth....i'm telling you unless they come up with something incredibley epic, the fourth movie i predict is going to be a huge flop....im serious theres no possible way they can continue this series and make it legit unless they come up with something so incredibley bogus...
but with that being said, maybe then its a good idea to have a new writer for the fourth.....you can tell by the 3rd that he was starting to run dry on ideas when a lot of scenes were scenes from the previous two films....they will increase the budget for sure....the 3rd was set at 10 million, which i think was more than enough....they really put that money to work too....some of the things in that movie were more than chilling.....i couldnt believe it, i actually started to get nausiated watching the beginning of it....and i have never gotten sick from a gore film, EVER....but i seriously had to think ok calm down its just a movie, you just ate too much candy thats all...it was insane..
all i have to say, is see the 3rd one.....its simple barely there storyline and its more than gruesome tests and see the ending...the twist was rather nice, though small....but it drastically changes everything...i really dont know how they are going to pull out a 4th and make it as great as the first ones
Please don't discuss the end of new movies without a spoiler alert, especially ones that have only been at the theatre for 3 days. You may think that it is an insignificant detail, but telling everyone that there is a twist spoils it. Yes, I am sure most people expect twists these days, but now we are consciously aware that it is coming.

s
It will not be a flop. But it probably will go down in the quality meter. But for me its been that way for the last 2 anyway. They were good. but not as good as saw.
they have to do a prequel time a film. its the only thing that can be put together withough being silly.

and the fact that jigsaw is returning is strage. is he going to haunt the traps....

Sigh not another Saw film its turning like Scream. I loved the 1st Saw because I didn't expect most stuff that happened in it. So when Saw 2 came out I did get excited though was very dissapointed when I saw it. I still have to see 3 but I'm waiting till it comes out on tv or get a lend of it off a mate. not wasting my money on it really.

I gave it some thought but now it cant be. I mean Jigsaws dead but then that guys daughter is in one of his traps and he doesnt know where she is and the airs running out so I dont know but I dont think that they are going to base the whole movie on one trap and also Amandas dead so no traps from her so its going to be a suprise.

I dont like it either.. I didnt give a crap about that guy in the 3rd.
Some half-news I just came across
Bloody-Disgusting.com hears from a reliable source that, yep, Shawnee Smith will indeed be returning for a fourth "Saw"-tastic murder marathon. But apparently the actress herself and director Darren Lynn Bousman are denying that claim.
AS BD.com notes, this is kind of the same thing that happened last year when "the buzz" indicated that Donnie Wahlberg would be returning for "Saw 3" ... which he did.
The newest "Saw" flick, which welcomes "Feast" screenwriters Marcus Dunston and Patrick Melton, opens on October 26th.

I'm not so sure about a sequel. I didn't enjoy Saw 3, and I assumed that it would end with that one. All I'm guessing is that it's a continuation of the film with new flashbacks of what happened before. In other words, I don't care that much to buy a ticket for it this Halloween.

I'll deff wait for the DVD. Sequels tend to have more blood and gore which i love, but the actors tend to get weaker and their peformances the same. Still haven't found that Jamie Lee Curtis of today, this world needs a new Scream Queen.

some news from horrorwebnews.com
SAW IV Synopsis and Cast07-03-07 7:50pm, Absinthe (absinthe@horror-web.com)Last month, director Darren Lynn Bousman created quite a stir when he revealed a Saw IV plot synopsis cut 'n pasted across various outlets was, in fact, a bunch of bunk. The joke was on us. Lionsgate released an official story crunch and it goes a lil' something like this...
Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead.
Now, upon the news of Detective Kerry's murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez, arrive in the terrified community to assist the veteran Detective Hoffman in sifting through Jigsaw's latest grizzly remains and piecing together the puzzle.
However, when SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences.
In addition to this at B-D, the site adds Scott Patterson, Betsy Russell (returning as Jigsaw's main squeeze), Costas Mandylor, Lyriq Bent (returning as Riggs), Athena Karkanis, Justin Louis, Simon Reynolds, Mike Realba and Marty Adams make up the cast. With Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, of course.
sounds a bit of the same o same o. im glad there not doing that old plot of starting with that one guy from the 3rd.. they'll probably have that in but maybe not the main?

more news from horrorwebnews.com
Wahlberg Back for SAW IV07-19-07 9:31am, Absinthe (absinthe@horror-web.com)
According to Rotten Tomatoes, Donnie Wahlberg is back for SAW IV and he's pissed about it.
Most actors are happy when they get asked back to a role. Not Donnie Wahlberg. Though left for dead at the end of Saw II, he was granted more screen time in Saw III. That seemed to be the end, but it looks like there's more Wahlberg in Saw IV.
"Yeah, I got a scene in it," said Wahlberg. "They kept me alive. I told them I wanted to die in part three and they took out my death. I just lie there and nothing happens."
[Spoiler alert]
Even Jigsaw died in Saw III but he's back. The filmmakers are keeping a tight lip on the timeframe that allows such actors to return, but Wahlberg was so annoyed that he spilled that officer Matthews still exists in present tense.
"No, they kept me alive. I don't want to talk about it."
Perplexed? You've got a few months to marinate on it, until Saw IV makes its way into theaters on October 26.
seems like they keep stretching for stuff. Matthews was is my favorite character out of the 3 so its cool that hes back.. just strange.

I totally agree. Personally, I think most people EXPECT the franchise to take a shitty dive in quality any sequel now so they're getting negative about the series but, in my opinion, thus far it's remained pretty damn good considering horror's track record with franchise decline. I'm sure, to some degree, there will eventually be some degradation here and there but three solid and one on the way ain't half bad.

I didn't care for part 1, loved part 2 and was so so on part 3, but I don't really care how many sequels they make as long as it keeps horror in the theaters. Hell, if I were making all the money they're making from the Saw franchise I'd keep making sequels until I got a court order to stop!

Sequels: Saw V & VI
Costas Mandylor has signed up for the next two installments in the horror franchise along with main character; Jigsaw, portrayed by Tobin Bell.[36]
It was confirmed through multiple sources that David Hackl, the production designer for Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV and second unit director for Saw III and Saw IV has officially been attached to direct both Saw V and Saw VI.[3]
The writers of Saw IV, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, will be writing Saw V and Saw VI.

I'm with you on that one TBD. It seems that every television and film series that comes out nowadays does that pretty quickly after the last one is released. I've been running out and buying each season of The Shield as soon as they're released, but I just know that after the final season is released on DVD, there's gonna be this huge kick ass fancy-schmancy box set released with every season plus a shitload of bonus material that I'm just gonna have to have!:x

I watched this last night. I thought it was better than the first. A major flaw I saw was:
Although John was in the morgue, somehow he ended up back in his base and the timeline got strange so that the lead cop could go back in time and shoot the doctor as well as lock the FBI agent in the room with all the bodies. These bodies included John, which was at the morgue and contained the tape that started the film's new mystery off. What the hell was that about? It was almost like watching one of the Juon movies at the end.
