View Full Version : Simon Pegg Confirms No "Shaun" Sequel

Despite early talk of a second zombie film to follow Shaun Of The Dead (jokingly referred to as From Dusk 'Til Shaun), Simon Pegg has confirmed that he and Edgar Wright do not plan on making a sequel. Here's the dirt:

"Simon Pegg, star and creator of British zombie hit "Shaun of the Dead", has given ZOO Magazine exclusive news about his next film: another comedy with the stars of the UK comedy series "Little Britain". The as yet untitled film aims to do for the action genre what Shaun... did with horror.

Pegg told ZOO, "We want to make the great British action film. It'll be the same kind of thing as Shaun... we're not taking the piss out of action, just as we didn't take the piss out of horror. But it'll still be stupid and silly, of course. It'll have the same tone and the same people." However, Pegg quashed rumours he'd make Shaun 2 - "We did play with the idea of a sequel, but sequels can damage the reputation of the original. Plus most of the characters are dead!"

Scripting starts in the autumn with director Edgar Wright and the new film should hit cinemas in 2006. Pegg has pitched the film as "The Wicker Man crossed with Hard Boiled" Alfred Molina and Dustin Hoffman are wanted for cameos."

Thanks for posting that Sadogoat, at first I was disappointed, then I realised he did have a fair point about most characters being dead! To make a sequel I suppose they would have to conjure up a convoluted plot with new people and it - as with all sequels - would never be as good as the first.

Glad to hear he will be making another film of a different type though, should be cool.

shaun of the dead is one of the funniest movies i have ever seen

actually they have a fair ammount of cast for a sequel...

Shaun
Liz
Zombie Ed
Yvonne
Dianne (yes, if you look in the special features you will find a storyboard about how she survived)

that equals five people, the numer of the main people...

Shaun
Liz
Ed
David
Dianne

I would like a sequel as long as its planned out...

I believe there's a Shaun adaptation out there as well as the short piece in 2000 A.D. that features Mary's plight.

I heard about that too, I heard it on the DVD commentary.

Wow, crossed with Hard Boiled? If you haven't seen it, it's a John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat gun movie where it seems every gun has unlimited ammo, the main character cannot be hit and never misses a shot, and the body count is astroniomical. Awesome!

I wonder if this is Hot Fuzz he's still talking about.

I was hoping for a sequel. Hopefully we'll get to see Simon and Nick Frost work together again though. They go together great, kinda like "The Odd Couple".

Which one was Diane?

She was David's girlfriend--the one that ran out into the zombie mob at the Winchester brandishing on of Davids legs (I believe) after he was dismembered. Apparently, she survived by climbing up a tree and staying there all night.

There is no point in doing a sequel. This film was so charcter driven (moreso than any DEAD film ever) that it's more than just Zombies...

This film was about Shaun and Liz with Zombies just happening to be there. I think a sequel would ruin the mystique of this great comedy. Sides....

What they do that hasn't already been done?

No sequel is good. It would have just been more rehashed stuff. If you watch Spaced, you see virtually the same gags, oddly, delivered by the same people from Shaun. Must say it took a bit of the gloss from Shaun, which i really love.

I wonder if they are just 1 trick ponies? Hope not.

I have the Region 2 dvd, and its packed full of goodies. So much better than any other region version. Though i am yet to find the "Something about Mary" feature.

I'm not at all for a Shaun sequel, but as for rehashing the same thing over and over, Mike Myers did it with Austin Powers 3 times, each more successful than the last.

That's two different monster's there; one is a couple guy's living the 'pub life' and the other is a total James Bond spoof; which is spawnable and continous.

:x

Not even remotely the same beasts.

From Dusk till Shaun? i just got a great idea for a script, similar to Shaun of the Dead except no Shaun and it won't be a sequel to Shaun of the Dead so it can't hurt the movie. I'll call my script:

!!!FROM DUSK TILL DON!!!

that could work out and be hilarious :)

Agreed. I didn't realize that rehashing was genre specific. One is a James Bond spoof and the other is a zombie spoof.

Oh splendid! I liked her... She was great in The Office too..

On that point, I saw Dylan Moran, who played David, live on his stand-up comedy tour... He's a funny guy. Anyway, I do remember him talking loads about the filming of Shaun... but can't remember much of what he said apart from he didn't seem to really enjoy the filming..

I agree with DE... I don't think a sequel wouldn't have taken anything away from the original... Although, if they did have a sequel, where would they go with it? http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/Characters/1bnz_smiley.gif

Take it easy skellington. :loon:

One is a sequel of assumidly Shaun and Liz and "Oh no! Zombie's are back!"

While another has 20 some odd James Bond films to feed off of. Who said it was genre specific? I'm saying, if I was a Producer I just don't see the legitimacy of making another one:

It only had:

Worldwide: $29,069,200

I wasn't trying to argue. Didn't mean to come off that way. I was just saying that rehashing works sometimes. Yes, Austin Powers has plenty of Bond movies to rip off of, but he only does that slightly. All 3 of those movies are pretty much the exact same jokes and lines in each one, and they paid off very well. Granted, though, I don't think it would work with Shaun.

A remake of Shaun? NEGATIVE!!! Not only is it WAY too soon, but there should never be a remake of this movie. It's perfect the way it is.

I really love that movie and it would be a shame to cheapen it with a sequel that wasn't perfect in every way.

However, if they could make a series out of it, one that was continuously fantastic through and through...that would be pretty cool.

If SOTD had been planned to have a sequel, and had been set up for one, that would be a different story. SOTD had a solid ending. It would be difficult to concoct a suitable plot for a sequel. Look at the Highlander films. If Highlander had been set up as a trology, it would've have worked beautifully. Instead it was a single movie with a solid ending with no chance of a sequel. However, they made a sequel with a very weak plot that drug the franchise down. Then they made the third Highlander that ignored the second one and then the fourth that just sucked.

Just say no to a Shaun sequel.

I was an extra on Shaun (nothing serious, just my bloody hands on the window during the Winchester scenes and some serious groaning), and the entire cast were really warm and friendly except for Moran, who spent the entire day I was there off by himself in a sulk about something or other.

People always say, "The movie was great and I want more!" Instead of a sequel just watch the movie that you love again! That's how you get more!

Comic Con Confirms no Shaun of the Dead 2 (http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_9449.html)

The 2004 cult hit "Shaun of the Dead" was a horror comedy the likes of which probably haven't been seen since the "Evil Dead" movies. "Shaun" took witty jabs at the horror genre the way the "Scream" movies did, and "Shaun" did it in an outrageously campy style and with an outright hilarious script. Edgar Wright's grand slam of a B movie took in $13.5 million domestic and $16.4 million foreign gross, totaling around $30 million, and finding even more of an audience on DVD as such films often do.
For a long while there has been talk of "Shaun 2," but at Comic-Con this weekend, director Wright declared that he didn't have an interest in trying to cash in on the novelty of "Shaun" by making a sequel. The prospect is officially unlikely, even though it has been rumored to sport such catchy, playful titles as "From Dusk 'Til Shaun." Nick Frost jokingly suggested, "Night of the Living Ed" (Frost played the character of Ed in the film). Shaun himself, Simon Pegg co-wrote the script with Wright, and they are currently in production on another such joint effort.
While the outlook of coming back to "Shaun" is not so good, Pegg and Frost are currently working together with their "Shaun" director Wright on an action/comedy called "Hot Fuzz" (with Timothy Dalton, the James Bond of "License to Kill," and Bill Nighy, one of their "Shaun" co-stars), and the three are looking to do another collaborative project again sometime in the future. Though, as far as "Shaun 2" goes, they will most likely let sleeping zombies lie.

just for everybody out there wondering. the movie that they are making is called hot fuzz.

Police Constable, Nicholas Angel is good at his job, so good in fact, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, his superiors at the Met have decided to sweep him under the carpet. So it is that London's top cop finds himself in the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With neighborhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation and finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman, an oafish but well meaning young Constable. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realizes that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems. With his faithful new partner in tow, Angel fights to prove his instincts are correct and uncover the truth about Sandford. Is Angel simply losing his mind in the safest, sweetest village in Britain? Or is something far more sinister at work? Whatever the truth, Sandford is about to get a lot less sleepy.(source IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425112/))

I hope they do. Before Shaun was released I had serious reservations about it, fortunately they proved me wrong.

Let's carry on this discussion in this (http://www.allthingszombie.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8411) thread about their next movie. If they do decide to make another zombie flick we can always open a new thread.
