This is open season for suggestions for the site. First things first, yes I know that CONTENT needs to be upgraded and updated more often...meaning more NEWS, more REVIEWS, more FEATURES/INTERVIEWS. I get it, and there's plans in the works for that. I'm looking for CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions/requests for improving the main site. This doesn't apply to the message board just yet. I have some stuff in the works for that as well.
How can we improve the main site?
How can we improve each section (ie. movies, books, etc.)?
What can we add?
What do YOU want to see on here?
Want polls?
Want an image gallery?
Spill your guts. I want to bring ATZ back to the glory days! Be constructive (and gentle). I don't want to see, "Your site sux! Nothing can help!" We'll delete those posts.

Personally I would love a photo directory, with somewhere members coud put up their own zombie photos, along wiht the lastest stuff from all other things in the world of zombies.

I think Kev is really thinking more about the main site at the moment, although i'm sure the forum will come under consideration.
I think we all forget that the forum is just a small part of what ATZ is. The site used to have regular news and reviews, competitions etc. It really was the foremost zombie site. Hopefully it will get back to that position in the near future.

I remember the very first time I saw this site. It was at least two years ago. I didn't come in and check out the forums; I just wandered around the main board. I remember being very impressed with the site. I think all that is really needed are some solid updates. I know that Kev has got to be really busy to not have updated in such a long time.
I just went out and looked and I didn't even see any references to either of Brooks' books nor to any of Keene's.
You might also want to split out previews/reviews into both zombie and general horror sections. People come here primarily when they're looking for info about zombies. That's where you should spend most of your energy. If somebody is looking for detailed info about an upcoming vampire or werewold movie, they can go find it somewhere else.
A picture gallery would be fantastic. I know it sucks up huge amounts of bandwidth, but how about small movie clips? Or what about sound clips that you can download?
Add some of the recent good fanfic to the main page.
I still think this is a great site. It all just really comes down to finding the time and material to keep it updated.

Perhaps the key to keeping things consistently updated is to bring in other hands to help. Lots of us do reviews and artwork etc. Perhaps enlisting some of that talent would help the site grow?
Personally, I would love to see interviews and features on all our indie talent out there, in terms of writers. Features on (and maybe guest commentarys about the site or other zombie-related madness from) the likes of Dave Moody, Travis Adkins, Andre Duza, Bowie Ibarra and Jacob from Permuted Press. Those guys have all contributed to the site, as have others such as Dave Wellington etc, and I'd love to see them become even more prolific on ATZ...
The books and comics are what I'd be into most. If you could score an interview/ feature with the likes of The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman, that would increase my zomborgasm potential, magnificantly... :)

I'd like to see a Logical Question added to keep spambots out. Something to the effect of "What is the name of our planet?" According to the nerds here at work, those image word verification things can be cheated by spambots.
I used to also love the trailer section. Most of us dig out new trailers and post them on the forums but it would be great to have them in one section on the main page again.

Yes to up-to-date book and movie info for sure. I also like the idea of more images. The Home page should be more visually engaging. Most of the images there now are in ads. A gallery of make-up effects (professional and amateur) would be really cool. Maybe some kind of rotating exhibit if bandwidth consumption is a concern.
How about a zombie timeline? Again, something visual, with links to various things in each decade. Links can be to info elsewhere on ATZ or to official web sites of the movies or artists, etc.
I also like contests. How about something like a mystery photo or a title or name to unscramble?
Lastly, how about something along the lines of what that meetups site does? I guess it could be handled in the forums, but if there was a way to track who wants to meet and where and when, maybe there's be a better chance of others joining in. As much as I love the idea of an ATZ convention, I just don't see many of us traveling very far for one. organizing meetups in major cities (or areas with a high concentration of ATZers) might be a better way to go.

Also, try to focus mainly on reviewing zombie movies. This is a zombie movie site, not general horror site. Movies like Cabin Fever, Freak Out, Open water, Wrong Turn etc don't belong here.

That was going to be my suggestion too. I don't need a pair of Air Jordans.
I'd like to see more ATZ out there. I would love it if we became the next aintitcool.com without the douche baggy pretention. I know this is asking for a lot of work on ATZ admin's part but one thing I love about this board are the reviews that aren't lame. I'm going to hear what someone like me is going to say about a movie than some human bean bag chair that watches Phantom Menace in Klingon all day is going to say about it.
It would be cool if we popped up if you typed "zombie" or "horror movie suggestions" into a Google search.
And to add to that, if we had something more than just "post count". Like if we linked ATZ to our webpages or used ATZ as a signature link on other boards we can maybe get "friend of ATZ" points. You can't cash them in for prizes, but maybe eventually it would give you Moderator status or a hand in shaping the future of ATZ.

I appreciate all the input. I don't have time to comment on each suggestion, but I'm reading them all and taking notes. Some, I will say, are already in the works. Keep the ideas coming! Also, if you have any zombie merchandise ideas you would like to see, feel free to add those as well.

I really like the idea of FX and other picture boards...being a rookie FX makeup junkie, I would love to post pictures of my work and see the work of others.
Also is there anyway to I guess "contain" the really popular threads??? For example, the day of the dead remake thread is a million pages long, the majority of posts (i myself am guilty of this) are things like "oh this sucks" "oh i want to see this, looks great" "why do we need more remakes?" etc...Simple sentence complaints or agreements that have nothing to do with the progress of the film...I find it really hard to keep up with some of the threads because there are just way too many pages to look through to find a little bit of important information...
Is there anyway we could see threads with truely useful info on big titles????not just opinions???
I suppose for opinions we could start different threads Example:
Day of the Dead Remake information ONLY
Thoughts and concerns of remake Day of the Dead
but i don't know......

I'd like to see someone get to work on the reviews section, pictures don't show up, basic zombie flicks like Dod (origional) and Dead Alive haven't been reviewed. Is there anyway I could review one of the films listed is the section for this site? What about video games? And some errors I found on the movie reviews page are just baffling. You have Freddy vs Jason reviewed. WTF? It has nothing to do with zombeis! I know its a horror, film, but come on, this is allthingsZOMBIE.com!
I also found that a lot of content has been removed from the comic book area. Most links in the indie film area don't work anymore, All of the dead is still on youtube, but not ifilms by the way.
The thing that irks me the most is the pictures that have mysteriously disappeared form the reviews, and the non-existant updates.
If you guys don't have the time to work with it, some of us at the forums could do somethings. I don't mind contributing.
To get to my main point: We need to fix up the existing site more and give it a new look (I still love the sites "gather" banner though") before we think about adout adding more sections.

How about turning on the RSS feed ability (i.e. external.php)? I've found this to be a very useful option on other vBulletin forums.

So who, besides Ark, wants the Chat Room to stay? I know many don't know that it exists...so for you who don't know about it, does the chat room appeal to you? Would you use it with an easier accessible link?

I know this is a bit random, but how about our own drawing board (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oekaki)? For all of us who like to draw macabre, horror, and mostly importantly zombies. And if you're no good at drawing, this is a great way to improve your skills, since other users can leave comments on your drawings and such. The best part is that it's not all that hard to set up a drawing board.
What do you think?
I want the chatroom to stay as well.
How about a new site layout? Something that stands out :). Ah yes, and fix some broken links and images. Updates in certain sections are needed

I think it would be nice to have a image or screen cap gallery. Most screen cap sites do not have many horror movies or zombie films in general, so it would be nice to see High quality screen caps here from different zombie films. Some of the screen caps might even encourage others to see or not see a particular film.

Definately more updates to the main site. It's been dead since October of last year! Since the main page of the site isn't the forum, it'd help drive traffic to the here if folks thought that there was still life left in this old Zombie site.
I agree. I know the main site is being worked on, and I have seen screen shots of the new layout, so i am hoping that things will improve in the near future.

I'd like to see a sub forum where people can put their own short stories. Maybe just zombie related, maybe horror in general. Possibly secured, needing a password or something as to try and stop plagiarism and with an age limit so the stories can be as foul/erotic/gory and graphic as the author intends them to be without needing censorship.
Then when they are done, edited and critiqued by the forum goers they can be put onto the main page if the author wishes.

Probably not a good idea yet. If you look at the profile info posted by the newly-joined members, you'll see that we are still having an influx of "survival nuts". We should give them some more time to find someplace more appropriate to discuss which weapon will most easily destroy a human head.

“Survival Nuts”? Some how you might be confused… NotLD (original and remake), DoTD (original and remake), LotD, & every other ZOMBIE related movie, covers the topics of “SURVIVAL” and “DEFENSE” from an attack of the “UNDEAD”. To title this web site as “ALL THINGS ZOMBIE” and leave out an important part of the genre would be a mistake. Bring back US&D and allow the first amendment to be free.
It was also nice to see that “CHEWY” has made at least twenty-eight posts in the forum US&D.

Yes, me too. It was fun. Now it's gone. I don't understand how you can enjoy a zombie survival movie but not a zombie survival forum. Take away the gun and weapon threads and it would be just another part of the genre, without any worry about crazy militia people blaming ATZ for that time they blew away the neighborhood.
No, I don't post in other areas. I don't see a rule anywhere that says I have to. I haven't seen too many zombie movies, I don't play video games, I don't care about the difference between Romero and Resident Evil. I just like talking about zombies because it's fun.
I see everyone's point that people go a little crazy arguing about the best guns to shoot people in the head with - that stuff was way over the top. It also had almost nothing to do with zombies other than the fact people would throw in the word "zombie" every now and then. "I'm going to blow away my ZOMBIE neighbors now," or "I certainly wouldn't hesitate to stab my ZOMBIE ex-wife in the face." - Really, has almost nothing to do with zombie survival.
So, what I'd like to see is the US&D forum come back WITHOUT the discussions about how to shoot people in the head and what best to do it with, etc. Then everyone would be happy. Except of course the people who are just looking for a gun forum that isn't being watched by "evil liberals" - but this is ATZ not the NRA.

Try a border on both sides with some Zombie images inside the borders.
Bigger and bolder text on the menu items because its kind of hard to see.

Maybe a section where people could start RPG's (using freeform and PnP).
"The Dead Will Walk..." is a nice site but its sorta slow.
I know with the amount ppl on here it might be a mad-house of threads and such but I think we could handle it.
Just a thought.

I'd like to see the whole post count title thing be eliminated in order to cut down on newbie spam. It seems like most new members automatically start spamming the shit out of threads and add absolutely nothing worthwhile in their ridiculously childish pursuit of some silly ranking or custom title. I think if that was eliminated we'd see new members cutting down the rampant posting and offering more quality to the community instead of quantity. Just a thought.

well i think ATZ should do an online based radio station, that plays movie soundtracks, has contests, and have people narrate fan-fiction or stories that they or others have written... i realize that would probably be complicated, and expensive, and not many people would listen in, just because...

Instead of basing rank on posts, base it on +/- (like joehorror.com's forums), that way we'll get less spam-whores. Other users will reward each other for the quality of their posts instead of a system that rewards spamming (ex: 95% of what DF posts is dribble).

Good idea in theory. Mind you I try and post as much news as I can find, in whichever section it may be, but get demoralised when only 3 members and a squirrel read it. At least I try though:lol:

It's not so much the lack of spoiler tags that's the problem. It's the way a thread has to be navigated. You have to scroll down through posts while browsing, so putting "warning: spoilers below" on a post is kinda pointless since you have to scroll down through that reply to get to the next one anyway. Ehh, maybe I'm just being nitpicky.
