Just heard about a new movie starring the one and only Bruce Cambell as... Bruce Cambell.
Plot Outline: B Movie Legend Bruce Campbell is mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy and forced to fight a real monster in a small town in Oregon.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0489235/
Sorry if this has been mentioned before Didn't find anything using the magic search button.

been looking forward to this one for awhile. it seems like its been in production forever. I think the title they had before this was a tad better "they call me bruce"

The very first time I heard about it it was called "I am Bruce" I think they are spending too much time on thinking of a clever name and not enough time on filling out the story.

hahhahah hopefully thats not the case. But its probably going to be a scifi pictures original. But hey some of those are good especially the BC ones.
The concept of the movie looks like its going to be full of one liners and mishaps.... with gore:clap:

"A small town, plagued by an ancient curse, makes the horrible mistake of recruiting a genre actor to help, thinking that his movie skills would apply. They don't. Be afraid, be very afraid." -BC
Press Release
"My Name Is Bruce is being produced by Dark Horse Indie, the new joint venture production company created by Dark Horse Entertainment and Image Entertainment. Popular actor and Oregon resident Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) is set to star and direct. He will also produce the project with another Oregon resident, Dark Horse president Mike Richardson.
My Name Is Bruce is the tale of a small town set upon by demons after a group of teen-agers unwittingly unleash an ancient curse. Campbell, playing himself, is kidnapped off the set of a B horror movie and, despite his protestations that he's just an actor, is forced to play the role of his heroic movie character in order to save the town. Mark Verheiden (The Mask, TimeCop) is writing the screenplay. Production is scheduled for early 2006 in southern Oregon."
No prizes for guessing the identity of the 'heroic movie character' that Bruce is mistaken for. Given the failure of Evil Dead 4 to materialise, I guess this is the next best thing we can hope for.

theres already some discussion of this flick in another thread. I think its over at the non zombie horror section.

Why is this in the Non-Horror and TV Talk section? I found another thread started yesterday of the same title in the proper section, but this thread is apparently the original one. Shouldn't this be in the Upcoming Zombie Flicks In Theaters section? Mods? Anyhow, here's a couple of pics...(Both Bruce)

For a minute, I thought you were talking about a remake of this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084786/).:)

No, it's not really a remake as much as it is a sort of 'knock off'. It's pretty much the same idea.

so is this movie said to go straight to theaters?

I doubt it. This'll probably be either a direct-to-video release or will show up on the Sci-Fi channel.

I've seen the "original" one, its a funny martial arts movie.

As in "Bruce Lee", the martial arts master?
________________
Hopefully, there's plenty of Ash-like action in "My Name is Bruce", though I can imagine it won't be nearly as gory as Evil Dead, if it's slated for the Sci-Fi channel.

Yes, the main character is a chef, and some bad guys (mob I think) mix him up with some one else, and keep calling him Bruce. But, as for this new flick, it sounds awesome in my opinion, but I agree, it will probably be straight to video/Sci-fi. I don't mind that, though.

Hmm, I've liked Bruce's movies so far, though I haven't read his book. I just hope this movie isn't one big piece of self-indulgence.

I think, (and hope), it's gonna be more like him making fun of himself as a 'horror icon' in sort of a William Shatner type way of thinking. As for whether or not it hits the theaters, I hope it does come straight to DVD. I'd much rather own it right away than have to wait.

For a minute, I thought you were talking about a remake of this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084786/).:)
With the barrage of remakes over the past several years, I thought the same thing when I first saw the announcement for this film... Maybe someone forgot to check for used movie titles or they figured that that nobody would give a second thought to the original... I think a lot of people will connect the title with the original movie, and it might create some confusion... From what I can recall, the original had some good stuff for a little comedy flick. :)
Here's an article recently posted at Bloody-Disgusting.
'My Name is Bruce' Begins Filming! First Photos!
I was hearing mumblings that production has begun on the Bruce Campbell super project entitled My Name is Bruce, but I wasnt able to confirm. Today not only has confirmation come in, but so has the first photo and word that the film has wrapped!! The pic takes place in a small town in Oregon that gets overrun by zombies. Some dumb moron recognizes Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series and has the "great" idea to give him a double barrelled shotgun and a chainsaw. Read on for the pic...
Campbell explained at one point, "The whole town mistakes me as Ash, and I've never shot a gun, nor used a chainsaw." Bruce commented on this saying something like, "and I don't know shit on how to use either one, so I actually cause more deaths than the zombies."

Pic comes courtesy of AICN with details that Ted Raimi also stars as Wing, who is the care-taker of "Guan-di," the Chinese God of War, apparently Bruce's nemesis in the flick.

There was a radio interview with Bruce about the movie (Fangoria Radio maybe?). Apparently he's shown a rough cut of the movie at a couple of film festivals. I think he's hoping for enough notice at the festivals to get a solid distro deal or possibly limited theatrical release (the same reason a lot of indies get held up). There's a couple reviews from the festivals out there in internet land, and the reaction to the film is moderately good. What I've read basically says Bruce's over the top characterization of himself is amusing to a point, but begins to get old. Bad rubber suit monster, solid one-liner laughs.

Okay, I know there's gotta be Bruce Campbell fans here. Pretty much the biggest cult hero of his time. This is one I've been looking forward to for a very long time, and it seems like it's finally coming out. In select cities for now, anyhow. According to his website he's doing a cross-country tour to promote this film.
So the film looks he will be playing himself (albeit a somewhat jerk version of himself), and just happens to stumble across a situation you'd find in one of his movies. Supposedly there's going to be plenty of nods to the Evil Dead series, and just looks like a great film. Also, if this movie does well, they've already signed on to do another film called, appropriately, "My Name is Still Bruce". I'm pretty stoked.
